To~ay's Game * ... ... ... ... ......... ~ \ i \ Often defeated but still dangerous against any kind of competition, the Southern Methodist University Mustangs and the Texas A. & M. Aggies today should give the Homecoming fans thrill after thrill as they attempt to outscore each other. Outcome of the game apparently will have littlc bearing upon the Conference championship, but when the sea- son is over today's contest may be included among the most interesting of the year, for both teams delight in run- ning up yardage, in,,.attempting t? score from any position on the field. I Not since 1938 when Joe Pasqua, giant S.M.U. tackle who is now in the starting line-up of the Cleveland Pro Rams, kicked a field goal in the last few 'minutes of play to give the Ponies a, 10 to 7 victory, .have the Mustangs t1iumphed over 'the Farmers. In 1939 the two elevens"battled on even terms before -the Aggies"'emcrged victors 6 to 2; in 1940 the teams, which tied for the Conference championship, met at Ownby Stadium with the Aggies win- ning 19 to 7; and last year the Farmers overcame a Mustang lead to defeat the Ponies 20 to 10. The only team that both S. M. U. and A. & M. have played this year is Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, which defeated the Aggies 18 to 7 and lost to the Mustangs 6 to 21. Mustang fans, however, do not place too much im- portance on this score as last week the Aggies demonstrated their scoring ability by running over Arkansas. - ' . . . .-.... .~ - - - - . This insti- tution has a genuine pride in the records being made by you who have gone from our halls, and we hope that the years spent here are proving of value to you in these trying days. We hope that you may experi- ence the joy of a real Homecom- ing as you renew old friendships and come to share the present life of the University. -". * DR. T. O. WALTON, LL.D. ANY TIME /\\ $; 7~ .JJu.;t Next Week's Game Two teams whose coaches left during the summer to serve in the armed forces of the United States will clash at Ownby Stadium next Saturday afternoon when S. M. U. entertains Arkansas. Head Coach Madison Bell of S. M. U. and Head Coach Fred C. Thomsen of Arkansas both were looking forward to greatly improved teams this fall and were anticipating revenge on some other conference opponents, but they left the college grid- iron world to enlist with Uncle Sam. .(1 -;~ 'I Neither the Mustangs nor the Razorbacks have made the record that their supporters were hoping for, but both have played good football at times. Arkansas upset Mississippi 7 to 6 for its best showing, whereas the Ponies looked best when they defeated a highly-favored Corpus Christi Naval Air Station eleven 21 to 6. The game next week will be the last conference contest for the Razorbacks, who have already lost to T.C.U., Baylor, Texas, and A. & M. They are scheduled to play Rice Institute today. For the Mustangs, next week's contest will be their third conference affair. After next week's game, the Ponies will play Baylor in Waco No- vember 21, T.C.U. in Dallas November 28, and Rice in Houston December 5. r~ . PRINCIPAL CITIES IN TEXAS nForward .J'-.-. -- ... ...
