Supporting Documents:
A. Alterations. I have significantly improved the landscaping since I purchased the
property in 1999. A short, white picket fence has been added, as well as numerous
beds in the yard. I had a 2000 sq.ft. concrete drive area in front of the garage
added. A tapering six ft picket fence has been added between my drive and the
neighboring property to the north, but only for the span of my garage area. A
1500 sq.ft antique brick patio was laid in the back yard behind the large porch.
The bedrooms have been dry walled and textured. The dining room has been
plastered and dry walled.
B. Prominent Historical Figures: As far as I'm aware, Caroline Mitchell had lived
in the house her entire adult life. She never married but was engaged 3 times
according to neighbors. All three times her fiance died prior to the wedding. She
had no heirs, but had an estate, which was liquidated and subsequently donated to
various organizations in her will. She was well known in the community and
served as the TAMU registrar for many years. Her father, who built the house,
was the dept. head of Mathematics. I found numerous old college papers of
Caroline's in the garage, some of which indicated she obtained a masters in
geology from UT Austin. According to neighbors she played the piano and every
Sunday for some years she had a number of cadets come over and sing while she
played. She never drove a car~Caroline had a private nurse and was bedridden
for a year prior to her death. A few months after her death, the contents of her
house were auctioned. I went to the auction. She had something like 2000 dolls
collected and had 9 sets of china as well as a grand piano and some nice antique
pieces of furniture. A few months later the house, completely empty, was
auctioned and I purchased it. Much of this information I've provided is in no
way official, it is what I remember from neighbors telling me stories.
C. Property Ownership: Miss Mitchell's father built the house and Caroline
inherited it. There have been no other owners of the house, save myself.
D. Tenant History: I cannot speak for the years prior to my ownership of the house,
but I do know that Caroline's nurse stayed at the home at least some time prior to
Caroline's death. To my knowledge, otherwise Caroline lived alone. Upon my
acquisition of the house I moved in two tenants. My cousin Wm. Patrick Murphy
lived in the house from 1999-2003. Brooke A. Smith rented the downstairs room
from me from 2001-2004. Stefanie A. Miller rented that same room from me
from May 2004-Sept. 2005.
E. Narrative History: I have no narrative of the property other than what I've
mentioned above. I intend to continually improve it. It needs a new roof and such.
F. Drawings. Site plan drawings are attached.
G. Photographs: I have no historic photographs of the property. I have attached
several current (Oct. 2005) photographs of the property.
H. Additional Information: I have attached a news article from 2000 regarding part
of her estate given to TAMU. I have the original blueprints for the house, but will
be keeping them. I've no other information other that what I've provided.
I. References: I found the news article online. I couldn't find any other information
online however.

Texas A&M System Regents Approve Bonfire Scholarships
Texas A&M System- Regents Approve Bonfire
Scholarships
COLLEGE STATION -The establishment of scholarhhips in memory
of two Bonfire victims was approved today (July 28) by The Texas A&M
University System Board of Regents meeting at Texas A&M University-
Commerce.
Requested by Texas A&M President Ray M. Bowen, the two funds in
the amount of $50,000 each will be called the "Jamie Lynn Hand '03
Bonfire Memorial Scholarship" and the "Michael Stephen Ebanks '03
Bonfire Memorial Scholarship."
The funding for the two scholarships will come from a gift to the
Texas A&M Scholarship Fund received from the estate of Caroline M.
Mitchell. The interest from the two funds will be used to support
scholarships at Texas A&M.
In other action, the regents approved the use of funds from the
Available University Fund (AUF) to match private gifts under the Vision
2020 Chair Matching Program.
The purpose of the Vision 2020 project is to establish Texas A&M as
a consensus top 10 university by the year 2020 and, according to the
plan, establishing more endowed chairs will assist in the recruitment of
needed faculty.
Over the next five to seven years, a total not to exceed $20 million
will be provided from the AUF to match external gifts for the purpose of
creating endowed chairs at Texas A&M.
The use of AUF funds for matching private gifts for the endowment
of academic positions was approved by the 76th Texas Legislature in
regular session.
