set for Friday in CS
Planet watchers have begun
readying their telescopes for what
experts say will be the best view-
ing of Mars until 2018, and every-
one is invited to take a glance at a
public viewing session Friday.
The Brazos Region Astronomy
Service Society will host the Mars
and Venus viewing session from 5
to 11 p.m. Friday at Veterans Park
in College Station.
The main event will be the rising
of .the Red Planet at 5:36 p.m.
Venus and the moon will be
observed until they set.
Parking lot and athletic field
lights will be turned off until the
park closes at midnight so
stargazers can see their targets-
more clearly.
Participants will be able to view
the planets and stars through tel-
escopes with the help of star
charts. Blinn College students will
conduct demonstrations using ~
NASA Night Sky Network materi-
als, but area astronomers are
invited to bring their own tele-
scopes.
The viewing will be moved to
Saturday in the event of cloudy
weather.
