Caldwell pitcher Brandi Crnkovic and
Lady Hornet outfielder Kelsey Spittler
rounded out the team.
Brenham head coach Wade Wilson was
voted Coach of the Year by his peers after
leading Brenham to its second state title.
A big factor in the Cubettes' run to their
state title was the right arm of Winkelmann.
The Brenham senior was 25.2 on the season
with a meager 0.28 ERA and 153 strikeouts.
In the championship game in Austin,
which went 11 innings, Winkelmann threw
167 pitches, but she seemed to get better as
the game wore on. She pitched a complete
game in the semifinals as well.
Winkelmann got plenty of support, both
offensively and defensively, from
Dahlquist, Long and Bush.
Dahlquist ignited the winning rally in the
state title game with her third double in as
many games. Dahlquist hit a robust .423 for
the season, driving in 43. She had a .992
fielding percentage.

Long, who was the rock of the outfield. Long
had a .957 fielding percentage and hit .328
with 26 RBIs and 31 runs scored.
Franklin's trio of first teaniers featured a
pair of underclassmen in DeStefano and
Walker. DeStefano, who was on the first
team last season, was 22 -A's Offensive Play-
er of the Year after hitting .457 with 31 RBIs
and 21 runs scored.
Walker had the best average on the team
- .595. She added 19 RBIs and the first base-
man committed no errors. She was the dis-
trict's Newcomer of' the Year.
Benefiting from the offensive power of
Walker and DeStefano was Martin, who was
the 22 -2A Pitcher of the Year. Martin was 20-
1 with a 0.51 ERA. She had 119 strikeouts
and also hit .450.
Bryan's run to the playoffs was fueled by
leadoff hitter Saenz, who hit .449 and stole
28 bases. She was a Co -MVP of District 13 -5A
and also was named to the Texas Girls
Coaches Association All-State team.
Teammate Towell was right behind with
a .448 batting average, 16 stolea bases and a
school- record 11 doubles.

with A &M Consolidated, which got a big
year from Bishop. The Tiger junior led the
team in RBIs with 33 and hit .479.
Caldwell's Crnkovic and Spittler helped
the Hornets reach the state tournament last
season for the first time. Crnkovic was
named 19 -3A's Most Valuable Pitcher this
year and Spittler was a Co -MVP.

Bush and Spittler all were members of the
first team last season.

Eagle sports staff.
