HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-2193 - Ordinance - 08/08/1996ORDINANCE NO. 2193 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 10, SECTION 3.E (2) (n)(g), OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION RELATING TO SPEED ZONES, SPECIFICALLY DESIGNATING ADDITIONAL AREAS IN THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION IN WHICH RATES OF SPEED OF THE THIRTY MILES PER HOUR OR MORE ARE AUTHORIZED; RESCINDING AU. PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND DECLARING THAT ATTENDANT FACTS NECESSITATE IMMEDIATE ACTION. WHEREAS, Texas law states that the maximum speed limit through an urban district is thirty miles per hour unless zoned by the proper authority; and WHEREAS, the City of College Station has the authority by City ordinance to alter maximum prima facie speed limits; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS: That Chapter 10, Section 3.E (2)(n)(9), of the Code of Ordinances of the City of College Station, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows: Rock Prairie Road, for traffic moving in an eastedy direction for the first 0.359 miles from State Highway 6 East Frontage Road, the speed limit shall be thirty five (35) mph. For traffic moving in a southerly direction for the next 1.808 miles, the speed limit shall be fifty (50) mph. For the next 2.8 miles to the College Station city limits, the speed limit shall be thirty five (35) mph. Rock Prairie Road, for traffic moving in a northerly direction, for the first 2.8 miles from the College Station city limits, the speed limit shall be thirty five (35) mph. For the next 1.808 miles, the speed limit shall be fifty (50) mph. For the next 0.359 miles to State Highway 6 East Frontage Road the speed limit shall be thirty five (35) mph. I1. The preservation of the general welfare of the public necessitates immediate action; this Ordinance shall be effective from and after the date of its passage as provided by the Charter of the City of College Station.
