HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-2217 - Ordinance - 10/24/1996ORDINANCE NO. 2217 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 10, SECTION 2F, OF THE CODE OF ORDI- NANCES OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION RELATING TO SCHOOL ZONES, AND DECLARING THAT ATTENDANT FACTS NECESSITATE IMMEDIATE ACTION. WHEREAS, the City Council met at its regular meeting on October 24, 1996, and found that it would be in the best interest and safety of the citizens to amend Chapter 10, Section 2F, of the Code of Ordinances by designating a school zone on FM 2818 in front of the high school, with a maximum speed limit of 40 mph for FM 2818 when the yellow beacon is flashing, Monday through Friday, more particularly described as follows: FM 2818 from 300 feet west of the intersection of Welsh Avenue, east for a distance of 1450 feet to a point 220 feet east of the intersection of Nueces Drive. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION: That Chapter 10, Section 2F, of the Code of Ordinances is hereby amended as follows: "F. SCHOOL ZONES The City hereby designates school zones on certain streets. A maximum speed limit designated in the Traffic Control Device Inventory - Schedule V (dated November 12, 1992) during the hours designated by this ordinance on regularly scheduled days is established within the designated school zones except school zones on state highways where the maximum speed limit shallbe determined by the State Department of Public Transportation. The designated school zone speed limits and the hours regulating the time of day that each zone is in effect are described in Traffic Control DeviceInventory - Schedule V (dated November 12, 1992) on file in the office of the City Secretary. This schedule is hereby adopted and incorporated in this Code as if set out at length herein and is amended by designating a school zone as follows: FM 2818 from 300 feet west of the intersection of Welsh Avenue, east for e distance of 1450 feet to a point 220 feet east of the intersection of Nueces Drive. The foregoing schedule may be amended from time to time by ordinance of the City Council. The preservation of the general welfare of the public necessitates immediate action. This Ordinance shall be effective from and after the date of its passage as provided by the Charter of the City of College Station. PASSED, ADOPTED and APPROVED this 24th day of October, 1996.
