1. Call meeting to order and consider absence requests.
With a quorum present, the History Preservation Committee Board was called to order by
Chair Gerald Burgner on Monday, January 9, 2023. No absence was requested.
2. Hear visitors. None.
3. Agenda Items
3.1 Presentation, discussion, and the possible approval of minutes from the previous
meeting.
The minutes were approved. All were in favor, and the vote passed unanimously.
A. Cemetery
Sherry Frisk is in contact with the Texas Historical Commission and acknowledged the work
completed thus far. She received the proposed inscription that would go on the marker and
spoke with College Station historians to revise the inscription for accuracy. Lou Hodges
moved to accept Revision 1 with anticipated changes. Tre Watson seconded the motion; all
were in favor and the motion passed unanimously.
B. Historical Marker Program – No update.
C. Exploring History Lunch Series
The group expressed their congratulations on a job well done regarding the publication of
Exploring History Luncheon marketing materials made and executed by the Public
Communications and Parks and Recreation departments. Discussion on hold regarding the
increase in price of lunch. Lou Hodges motioned to increase the lunch price from $7 to
$10. Tre Watson seconded the motion; all were in favor and the motion passed
unanimously. The committee asked that the proposal for an increase be presented to City
Council.
D. Project HOLD Report
The report was provided to the committee from Meghan O’Rourke. She has replaced a
group of documents with improved scans and files and is making acid-free photographs
enclosures/envelopes. She is also applying for a THC grant for funding archival materials
budget. Regarding the City Hall display cases, cabinet lighting will be pursued, and a 1-2
shelf max may be requested by HPC for the 85th Anniversary special exhibit to be curated.

Meghan is currently working with the owners of 208 Timber on their Historic Home
Application.
E. McCulloch Neighborhood Interviews
Meghan O’Rourke stated in her report that the interviews are in progress. Interviews with
Henry Lewis and A.C. Clark have been conducted. She is working with Barbara Moore and
Cheletia Johnson on the project and they have a January meeting scheduled. She is also
looking for a specific recording with a 97-year-old citizen from the McCulloch
neighborhood. A drone flying over the neighborhood for video footage is in the works in
partnership with Mark Beal from Public Communications.
F. 85th Birthday of City of College Station
Tre Watson suggested to recognize CSISD accolades. Linda Harvell suggested the
committee chair meet with the City Manager.
G. America’s 250
Sherry Frisk showed the architectural drawing for the Never Forget Garden. J. Cody
Construction will be being doing the installation. $65k in donations and $45k in grants has
been raised, totaling $110k, as well as $10k in kind.
4.2 Presentation and discussion on a report from the Parks and Recreation Liaison.
Reena Gonzalez provided the 2023 Exploring History Luncheon handouts with the January
through April dates to the group.
4.3 Presentation of historical items
Lou Hodges showcased one cell animal skeleton from the Cretaceous Period found in the Hill
Country of Texas, specifically in the town of Wimberley, located near San Marcos.
4. Adjourn and Closing
Sherry Frisk motioned to adjourn the Historic Committee Board Meeting. Tre Watson seconded
the motion, and all carried in a unanimous vote. The next HPC meeting is scheduled for
Monday, February 6, 2023.
