MINUTES
Members Present: E.E. Burns, Frank Duchmasclo, Ann Hays, Jerry Markowich, Robert Meyer,
Ron Silvia and Patricia VanderBoom
Members Absent: Jon Denton, Susan McGrail, Pearl Robertson and Joanna Yeager
Staff Present: Kelly Kelbly, David Gerling and Marci Rodgers
I. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by Frank Duchmasclo,
Vice Chairman
II. Hear visitors No visitors
III. Approval of minutes from regular meeting on May 21, 2012 E.E. Burns made a
motion to approve the minutes. Jerry Markowich seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously.
IV. Report, possible action and discussion concerning 2013 Historic Lunch/Lecture
topics and speakers Kelly Kelbly reported on the joint meeting between members of
the Historic Preservation Committee and Senior Advisory Committee and presented
the 2013 proposed topics for the Exploring History Lunch Lectures. Next year marks
the 75th celebration for the City of College Station. Each meeting will feature a 10
minute segment highlighting a particular decade by a member of the Historic
Preservation Committee. Lunch sponsors will be asked to make a donation for the
purchase of each meal. The committee was thanked for their efforts in making the
program a success.
V. Presentation, possible action and discussion on Senior Services Coordinator
Report regarding upcoming programs and events. Report attached.
VI. Discussion and possible action concerning Senior Advisory Committee
recommendations to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee for
Chairman and Vice -Chairman Robert Meyer made a motion to nominate Mr. Frank
Duchmasclo as Chairman of the Senior Advisory Committee for next year beginning
in August of 2012. Pat VanderBoom seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously. Frank Duchmasclo made a motion to nominate Ann Hays as Vice -
Chairman for next year beginning in August, 2012. Pat VanderBoom seconded the
motion. The motion passed unanimously. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
will receive the recommendations.
VII. Discussion and possible action concerning the Senior Advisory Committee Goals
FY 2012 Goal: Promote Healthy Lifestyle Programs for seniors - the committee
would like to see copies of the list of discounts offered to seniors updated and
available to the community. This item will be on the agenda next month.
Goal: Establish a Permanent Senior Center for College Station. Frank Duchmasclo
requested a fact sheet on senior programs and attendance to be available at the next
meeting. Mr. Duchmasclo discussed appearing before the City Council to outline the
programs and success of senior programs offered by the Parks and Recreation
Department.
VIII. Presentation, discussion and possible action on future agenda items: A
Committee member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been
given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing
policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the
subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting.
