Historic Preservation Committee
Monday, September 13, 2021 – 4:00 pm

The City Council may or may not attend the Historic Preservation Committee Regular Meeting.

1. Called to order and announced a Quorum at 4 p.m. by Chair Gerald Burgner
• David Fujimoto, Shirley Dupriest, and Marilyn Randall made a request for absence. Louis
Hodges made a motion to approve the absence request. William Wright second the motion.
The vote was called, all were in favor, and the motion was passed unanimously.
• Louis Hodges made a motion to approve the August minutes Sherry Frisk, second the
motion. The vote was called, all were in favor, and the motion was passed unanimously.

3. Agenda Items
3.1 Presentation, discussion, and possible action on the proposal for a Texas Historical Marker
for Parkland Dedication in the City of College Station.
• Cemetery Project: On Friday, September 10, 2021, four graduate students from TAMU
Geophysics Department came out to the College Station Cemetery with a GPR and identified
three graves that were unmarked. The area was marked and will be measured for each
individual space. Sherry Frisk is coordinating with Professor Mark Everett for them to
come back out with more PHD students to the cemetery on Friday, September 17, 2021, from
12:00pm to 2:30pm and look over the whole area with the GPR, weather permitting.
• Historic Marker Program: Marker #108 was presented by Gerald Burgner at the last City
Council meeting.
• Exploring History Lunch Series: Sherry Frisk is speaking at the September meeting on
Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at the Ringer Library. Currently there are 22 registrants to
attend the luncheon event.
• Removal Process/Protocol for Historic Markers: Nothing to report.
• Mccullough Neighborhood: Gerald Burgner has not gotten confirmation on a meeting date
at this time it will either be September 27th or 28th via Zoom. When Barbara Moore sends
an update, he will let committee members know.
• 250th Birthday: Jane Cohen spoke about the Never Forget Garden within Veteran’s
Memorial Park and shared an informational sheet with the committee. It will be a memorial
to honor all the unknown soldier’s that fought and died for this country. This garden will be
promoted within the November 11th dedication at Veteran’s Memorial Park. A marker will be
placed in the middle of the garden where others may remember these soldiers. This committee
is working with the Brazos Valley Veteran’s Memorial on fundraising. The goal is to have
this garden fully funded by donations. Linda Harvell suggested for this to be presented to
City Council once further plans are made.

3.2 Ana Romero had nothing to report
3.3 Saturday, September 18, 2021, multiple museums are having discussion on the Smithsonian
please visit smithsonianmag.com/museumday for tickets. October 15th & 16th is the
Boonville Days. The committee will need to discuss if they want to have a booth for the
event. In order to have the booth the committee will need multiple members to participate.
3.4 Louis Hodges brought a French board game he played as a kid with his mother called Nain
Juane meaning Yellow Dwarf.
4. American Mile topic discussion will be placed back on the agenda starting at the next
meeting in October. Louis Hodges would like to bring back the discussion topic of Project
Hold.
5. Motion made to adjourn by Thomas Smith second by Sherry Frisk and carried by
unanimous vote at 5:01PM. The next HPC meeting will be held on Monday, October 4,
2021, at 4pm.
