Acting on a written request by
Brooks Cofer, Sr., the College
Station City Council Monday
night repealed an ordinance zon-
ing parts of the Oakwood Addi-
tion for apartments.
The original ordinance, passed
at the January meeting of the
c,o u n c i 1, was protested by a
group of about thirty Oakwood
~vrâ–ºers at the February meet-
At that meeting, the Council
ted to refer the matter to the
anning and Zoning Commis-
n for recommendations.
The property, owned by Cofer,
sists of lots 3, 4, and 5 and
of lot 6 on Pershing St. Ap-

e on hand at Monday's meet-
of the council to hear the
Vioup's decision to return the
%operty to its original residen-
1 zoning.
In other action the Council ac-
ted the recommendations of
Planning and Zoning Com-
ssion concerning street exten-
sion guidelines and' industrial
zoning guidelines. Ed Burns,
chairman of the Commission,
presented a proposed street map
which he said "is a plan and a
guideline for the growth of Col-
'"Iege Station."
Everett Jannett, a member of
e Subcommittee on Street Ex-
nsion, explained the street ex-
tension map to the Council. "The
maps shows the streets that we
are primarily concerned with in
the street extension program.
This program will give a super-
block pattern. The major streets
for proposed extension would
give access from one part of
town to the other," he explained.
Wendell Horne of the Subcom-
mittee on Industrial Zoning sub-
mitted a proposed zoning map
dealing with the three zoning ar-
eas: Business 1, Business 2, and
Industrial. With the extension of
major streets in College Station
and the construction of the East
Bypass, new areas will be devel-
oped that will need to be zoned
according to one of the three ar-
eas the Planning and Zoning
Commission set aside and re-
