The College Station City Coun-
cil approved the second reading
of the .franchise for the Commu-
nity Cablevision Corp., a com-
munity television antenna sys-
tem, with the stipulation that
the corporation submit a certi-
fied financial statement for the
council's consideration.
The action was taken at the
council's regular monthly meet-
ing last night.
According to Mayor D. A.
(Andy) Anderson, "I am aware
of a lot of the pros and cons
that have been kicked around
for the past month, but some of
it is not in the interest of the
citizens of College Station. Per-
sonally, I don't see any harm in
passing the franchise on the
second reading and demanding
a statement that they are finan-
cially solvent before taking ac-
tion on the third reading."
Councilman James Dozier,
v o t i n g irr the minority, com-
mented, "Each time we pass a
reading, we are solidifying the
opinions of people. From the
standpoint, of fairness to the cit-
izens of College Station, it is my
view that we should table this
so we can make an investiga-
tion of the people who have in-
dicated that they have an inter-
est in it."
Don Adam, representing Com.
ipunity Cablevision Corp., said,°
"This company whose charter
has been granted by the state*
of Texas will be owned by local.
shareholders."
Adam emphasized that the
corporation has been capitaliz-
ed for $1 million, or 200,000
shares of stock at $5 per share.
He also noted that the corpo-
ration estimates the cost of the
system to be $550,000.
