Dear Editor,
The October 29 edition of the Eagle
ran a report of the College Station City
Council meeting. The President of Mid-
west Video, George Morrell, is quoted as
saying to the Council, " `No cable system
can degrade or improve upon the signal
that it receives.-' " Other statements
were made by representatives of Mid-
west Video that were at best misleading,
in an attempt to eliminate any possible
competition.
Surely Mr. Morrell is not so naive as
to think that the public of Bryan-College
Station will sit back and accept his state-
ment to the effect that his cable system
is not at fault when we have consistent
and regular poor reception. It is obvious
that the local cable system does "de-
grade upon" the signal which it receives.
Why else can we frequently remove the
cable from our television set and hook up
a $3 "rabbit ear" antenna and get better
reception on the local channel than we
are receiving with the cable? We had
to do this very thing two or three weeks
ago in order to watch a football game on
the local channel.
It is time that we the public, and our
elected local representatives, express en-
ough concern with the poor service that
has been renderd by Midwest Video in
the last decade that they will either
change their ways or step aside and let
another company have a go at it.
Yours truly,
Morris Jennings
