To The Editor:
Have the citizens been mislead by
the group which is called "Citizens for
Continued Progress" (or something like
that) ?
The reason I ask that question is be-
cause that particular group certainly
went to great lengths to advertise that
"zoning" is not in the best interests of
the citizens of Bryan, yet several front
page stories in recent issues of your
newspaper indicate that in College Sta-
tion, where there is zoning in effect,
the citizens not only have not lost their
property rights, they have legal recourse
to protect these rights.
That's something which the citizens
of Bryan do not have and cannot have
without zoning. But I distinctly recall
advertisements by the "Citizens for Con-
tinued Progress" which warned that
you would lose your property rights if
zoning were enacted.
This seems to have been proved to
be false if the recent occurrences in
College Station are any indication about
the rights of property owners under zen-
ing.
I called Lynn Shaw on Wednesday
afternoon to find out more about the
"Citizens for Continued Progress," but
he refused to tell me anything about it
over the phone. Why?
But more importantly, why did they
seem to think that zoning was a threat
to Bryan when it seems to have been a
blessing to property owners in College
Station?
Who are the "Citizens for Continued
Progress" and what do they want?
It certainly looks like they really
aren't interested in continued progress
after all.
What do they want? Who are they?
