3.1 Presentation, discussion, and possible action on the proposal for a Texas Historic Marker
for Parkland Dedication in the City of College Station.
• Cemetery Project: Sherry Frisk and Gerald Burgner had a zoom meeting with Kevin
Glowacki and Mark Everett who are in charge of working with the penetrating radar
equipment at TAMU. They scheduled a time for them to come out on April 30th and May 1st to
the College Station Cemetery. A time was not confirmed for these dates however they will
discuss a time later on. Gerald Burgner will be sending out information on this event if any of
the committee would like to attend. Sherry Frisk contacted Andrea Lauer to be placed on the
agenda to speak at the Parks Board Meeting about Cemetery. Sherry is currently on the agenda
to speak at the May Parks Board Meeting on Tuesday May 11th at the Larry J Ringer Library.
Shirley Dupriest inquired about the State Marker for the College Station Cemetery and the
pricing on the marker. She stated she may have an anonymous donor who will donate $2000
toward HPC funding for the state marker.
• Historic Marker Program: 2 Historic Marker applications were received by the committee.
208 Pershing applied for a historical marker and was reviewed first by the committee. Per the
committee there was not a lot of information on the property for the marker approval. The
committee questions the number of improvements that have been made to the home. William
Wright motioned not approve the application at this time until further information can be sent
in and they can resubmit their application for approval. Louis Hodges second the motion. The
vote was called, all were in favor, and the motion was passed unanimously. Gerald Burgner
will draft a letter to the applicants with the committee’s decision on the denial and request
more information on the home. He will send it out to the committee first before he sends it to
the applicants. Once the committee has more information on the homes history they applicant
can reapply for the marker and HPC will determine if it will be approved. 314 Pershing was
the second applicant for a Historical Marker. Louis Hodges made a motion to approve the
application. William Wright second the motion. The vote was called, all were in favor, and
the motion was passed unanimously. Cory Raney will reach out to the homeowners for
payment and Ian Whittenton will assist in scheduling a time to present the marker #106 to
the applicants.
• Removal Process/Protocol for Historic Markers: Ana Romero stated she spoke with
Leslie in legal and she is still working on the protocol. Leslie should have something by the
end of this week that will be shared with Gerald Burgner and then the rest of the
committee.
• Artifacts: Where Are They?: Gerald Burgner, Linda Harvell, Sherry Frisk, and
Shirley Dupriest went to Station 6 to look at the historical artifacts. Linda Harvell stated
the mayor wants to take a look at the remaining artifacts to see if he may salvage anything.
If not he is going to reach out to the Railroad Club about the train exhibit that is there. Some
of the items could be beneficial to the Parks Department for certain programs. Ana Romero
stated the Parks department would take a look to see if there is anything they can use within
their programs as well.
• Special Research Committee: Louis Hodges scanned in two folders of historical articles
into the system. Sherry Frisk is making arrangements with Rachael Altman at Carnegie
History Center to bring maps for her to look through. She hoped to make an appointment
with her by next week. Sherry Frisk is wanting to work with Rachel in order to possibly
preserve these historical maps. Linda Harvell would like some of these items and
information to be sent to project hold. She suggested a citizen volunteer to scan the maps
and other items into project hold. Ian Whittenton would be the contact to request a
volunteer to use the scanning equipment for project hold. Louis Hodges will reach out to
Ian and discuss the possibility of having a volunteer scan these items into project hold.
• HPC Social Media Posting: Nothing to report
• America's 250th Birthday: Jane Cohen sent out an email about some possible projects for
