1. Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, the Historic Preservation Committee was called to order by Chair Linda Harvell at 4:12 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012 in the College Station Parks and Recreation
Headquarters, 1000 Krenek Tap Road, College Station, TX 77840.
2. Hear Visitors
There were no Citizen Comments.
3. Possible action and discussion on absence requests.
Libby Vastano moved, with Ann Hays second. The Committee voted unanimously to approve excused absences.
4. Possible action and discussion of previous minutes:
MOTION: Jerry Cooper moved, Libby Vastano second. The Committee voted unanimously to approve the June 4, 2012 minutes.
5. Chair report and introduction of new Historic Preservation Committee members.
Chair Harvell introduced herself as the newly-appointed chair of the Historic Preservation Committee (HPC). New members Ed Burns and Joel Mitchell made introductions as new additions
to the HPC. Linda Harvell expressed her desire to move the Committee forward, re-evaluate existing heritage programs, and encouraged members to communicate new ideas and initiatives.
She expressed her intention to set concrete goals for HPC initiatives. Members discussed outreach, such as city history interpretative programs geared towards local schools, veterans’
projects, and compilation and summarization of City History in order to be more accessible.
6. Discussion of Committee goals and objectives to present to City Council.
Chair Harvell communicate her intention to regularly communicate with City Council regarding HPC initiatives, progress, and goals.
7. Report from HPC staff on Project HOLD and Historic Records Coordinator Office activities. -- Jacob Morris.
After Shelley Major summarized changes to the city website related to heritage programs pages, Jacob Morris reported activities for the months through August. He presented a progress
report to members, and described the improvements being made to Project HOLD, and requested members to refer any potential volunteers to assist.
8. Review, possible action, and discussion regarding the following sub-committees:
Historic Marker Program – M.D. Marshall
M. D. Marshall had an absence and did not report. Committee discussed the Historic Marker Program, and replacement and manufacture of markers.
Oral History Transcription Project – Former member Lou Hodges was previously in charge of the transcription project, no new member has yet been selected.
Exploring History Lunch Lecture Series – Susan Irza, Marci Rodgers, Ann Hays, Jerry Cooper
Committee indicated that progress related to 2012 lunch lecture sponsors, speakers, and topics is ongoing.
The attendance for the July lecture was 92 total, with 77 paid.
75th Anniversary – Linda Harvell, Patricia Cleere, Jerry Cooper, Susan Irza
The chair of the 75th Anniversary sub-committee, Linda Harvell, reported that the 75th Anniversary efforts had evolved to the implementation phase, and members were encouraged to assist
and/or refer volunteers to assist with 75th Anniversary preparations.
College Station Oral History Interviews & Educational Initiatives – Libby Vastano, Susan Irza
Libby Vastano reported that due to family illness, she has not conducted any interviews recently, but indicated that she should be able to resume in short order.
9. Determine members to introduce October and November Exploring History Lunch Lecture speakers.
Libby Vastano tentatively volunteered for October, and Jerry Cooper agreed to introduce in November, for the Exploring History Lunch Lectures.

Samuelson, introduced by Libby Vastano, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 11:30 a.m.

Nov. 8, 2012 75th Anniversary Sub-Committee meeting, City Hall, 8:30 a.m.
Nov. 14, 2012 “Second Thoughts: Presidential Regrets with their Supreme Court
Nominations,” presented by William Harper, Introduced by Jerry Cooper, Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 11:30 a.m.
11. Presentation, possible action and discussion on future agenda items.
No formal discussion on future agenda items.
12. Presentation and discussion of historical items presented by committee members, which may include historical books, pictures, artifacts, scrapbooks, or other memorabilia. No action
will be taken.
Jerry Cooper stated that he had digitized a collection of historic photographs and made them available for review.
13. Adjournment
MOTION: The Committee voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 5:40 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012.
