HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/16/2020 - Minutes - Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Advisory Board MINUTES BICYCLE, PEDESTRIAN, AND GREENWAYS ADVISORY BOARD Monday, October 19, 2020 3:00 PM Virtual meeting via Zoom MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairperson Linda Harvell, Kyle LeBlanc, Dennis Jansen and Kathy Langlotz MEMBERS ABSENT: Rebecca Brooker and David Higdon STAFF PRESENT: Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Planning Administrator Venessa Garza and Board Secretary Robin Macias AGENDA ITEM NO. 1: Call to Order and consider absence requests Chairperson Harvell called the meeting to order at 3:12 p.m. AGENDA ITEM NO. 2: Hear Visitors. There were no visitors who wished to speak. AGENDA ITEM NO. 3.1: Consideration, discussion and possible action to approve meeting Minutes. Board member Langlotz motioned to approve the minutes from October 19, 2020. The motion was seconded by board member Jansen and was approved (4-0). AGENDA ITEM NO. 3.2: Presentation and discussion regarding the Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Advisory Board calendar of upcoming meetings. • December 21, 2020 – Bicycle, Pedestrian and Greenways Advisory Board meeting – 3:00 p.m. There was general discussion regarding upcoming board meeting. Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Planning Administrator Garza stated that the next meeting may be cancelled if there are no action items. AGENDA ITEM NO. 3.3: Presentation and discussion regarding bicycle education. Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Planning Administrator Garza gave a presentation regarding youth and adult bicycle education. She stated that youth bicycle education is provided mainly at the elementary school level within the College Station Independent School District in a presentation format. The Fire Department also teaches bicycle and pedestrian safety as a part of their fire and life safety classes. Bicycle safety is also taught to teen groups during driver education classes. In the past, a bicycle rodeo which teaches on bike instruction was also offered. In the past for adult education, the City partnered with Texas A&M University to offer a bicycle class with classroom and on bike instruction but interest was minimal. The City also passes out bike maps, bike lights and educational booklets. Chairperson Harvell asked about doing a blog post regarding the available resources the city offers and to include cell phone use while biking. Planning Administrator Garza stated that Channel 19 used to show Drive Kind Ride Kind program videos which educated bicyclists and motorists on awareness and distracted driving. Board member Jansen provided the idea to give the booklets to local businesses to distribute when people purchase new bikes. AGENDA ITEM NO. 4: Possible action and discussion on future agenda items – A Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Advisory Board Member may inquire about a subject for which notice has not been given. A statement of specific factual information or the recitation of existing policy may be given. Any deliberation shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on an agenda for a subsequent meeting. There were no future agenda items requested. AGENDA ITEM NO. 10: Adjourn.
