Members present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Ames, Brown, Crawford, Harrington,
Orr, Wilcox; and City Manager Smith; and City Secretary McGinnis.
The meeting was called for the purpose of considering the appointment of a
successor to Mr. Smith, City Manager, and to consider an ordinance moat&g
a street in Cooner Addition.
Mayor Langford presented the names of Francis A. Vaughn and R. B. Riddle
as possible nominees for the position of City Manager of College Station.
The Council discussed freely and amicably the qualifications of each man and
voted unanimously to appoint Mr. Vaughn as City Manager at an annual salary
of $4000.00 effective July 1, 1946.
On motion of Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Crawford, Ordinance No. 89
entitled; "An Ordinance Vacating d Certain Street Along Lot 5, Block 3, and
Lot 17, Block 1, Acoording to a Revised Plat of These Blocks, Cooner Addition,
City of College Station, Texas," was passed at the first reading.
The Council adopted unaniraausly a Resolution expressing its deepest sympathy
in the passing of Luke Patranella,
RESOLUTION
The City Council records with deepest sympathy the death
of Luke Patranella. Affectionately known as Luke, in his
passing the community has lost a public»spirited citizen
and the youth of the community a fine friend. He was
always courteous and kindly disposed, and his like will
not be seen among us soon.
The Council reckoned Mr. Patranella as one of its most
loyal supporters. He was never too busy when his counsel
was needed, and he gave freely of his time and energy to
the end that the City of College Station might be a better
place in which to live.
This Resolution is therefore adopted unanimously this 17th
day of June, 1946, and it is ordered that a certified copy
shall be sent to Mrs. Patranella and a copy spread on the
minutes of the Council.
The Council adopted unanimously a Resolution accepting w ith reluctance the
resignation of Lloyd D. Smith as City Manager:

"The City Council accepts with reluctance the resignation
of Lloyd D. Smith as City Manager. In the conduct of
that office he has won for the city the confidence and
good will of the citizens of this community; in his
leaving we express our appreciation of his giving un-
stintedly of his time and energy with the result that
College Station enjoys an enviable position among the cities
of the state.
This Resolution is therefore adopted unanimously this 17th
day of June, 1946, and it is ordered that a certified copy
shall be sent to Mr. Smith and a copy spread on the Minutes
of the Council.'
The Mayor was authorized to make a public announcement of the
appointment of Mr. Vaughn to the position of City Manager.
