The College Station Historic Preservation Committee requests that all plaques are mounted on the front fayade of the approved building within thirty (30) days of receipt. Alterations I.Construction began November 1931, little is known of alteration until ten years ago. 2. The attic to the left of the stairs was made into an additional room before this ten-year period. Also, two houses were built on the east side of the lot. 3. Restoration began in January '95, under the new ownership of Mr. And Mrs. Russell Duke. 1. MAJOR ALTERATIONS 1. Addition of new master bedroom wing 2. Entirely new garage 3. Two exterior decks, surrounding flowerbeds, and sidewalks 4. Replaced all old siding 5. Repainted interior and exterior 6. Knocked down entry wall and walls in new kitchen area 7. Replaced all windows except for the window in the sewing room 8. Replaced all interior wood floors with exception of the dining and living room 9. Replaced sunroom with entry to new master bed wing 10. Added steel beam and column where hallway was taken down in the kitchen 11. Utility created from bedroom 12. Sewing room created from old kitchen II. MINOR ALTERATIONS 1. Stripped the stairs and repainted old banister 2. Removed all old wallpaper and cheese cloth in order to re-wallpaper 3. Added three air conditioning units 4. Restored living room bookcase and French doors and moved them to dining room 5. Sanded and refinished dining and living room wood floors 6. New shingle roofing within the past ten years B. Historical Figures Little is known about the historical figures in relation to this home. Over the years many professors of Texas A&M University have occupied the home. The home's most well-known and admired occupants were the Batys, from September 1952-1981. This family occupied the house longest and Mrs. Baty was the local piano teacher. C. Property Ownership D. Tenant History 1. Agreement to build on November 16, 1931 between Dr. Robert R. Fletcher and wife, Ruth Camp Fletcher, with builders Y.C Watson and M.M. Autrey Ownership changed as follows: 2. January 1947- Dr. H. G. Johnston and Francis Caldwell Johnston 3. September 1952- James B. and Beryl Baty 4. September 1981- Donald M. and Beverly A. Boucher 5. December 1985- David B. and Charlotte R. Hill 6. May 17th, 1994- Russell W. and Dorothy A. Duke (Class of '58 E. Narrative History This home is located in the historic district of College Station, in the College Park Sub-division. The home is also located less than a mile from the University of Texas A&M. The water hole of the near by Bryson Park, used to be a summer attraction for many children in the division. F.
