Torrents of rain which have deluged Bryan
and College Station for the past several days are
reducingthe bumpermosquito crop, a health official
declared Wednesday.
"Contrary to popular belief," said Dr. Martin
McBride, College Station Health Committee chair-
"heavy rains here help rather than hinder
m an
,
mosquito control."
"Rain washes mosquito larvae and wigglers fur- -.L
ther downstream where they are happily received as
a picnic for fish and minnows,'.' he pointed out,
"Rain makes things worse for some gardeners but
it's great forgetting rid of the basic mosquito prob-
lem."
A plan instigated by College Station Mayor
D. A. "Andy" Anderson to trap mosquitos for re-
search was delayed briefly, but is being put to use Y R ,
this week. Traps were placed in various areas of =xz,

the community by John Dodson of theBrazos County
3 Health Unit.
"Some people think we are trying to get rid of
the mosquito populace with these devices," chuck-

led Dodson. "That's not so, althou
tion Aould be appreciated by mostof us."
Mosquitos will be packed in dry ice and sent -
to Houston for tests to learn if they are carriers of
