There were two visitors present: John Anderson and Blanche Brick. Mr. Anderson is from the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial. He discussed a five year plan and went over the budget to
facilitate a facility that will enhance what will be on site. The budget is expected to be somewhere around five million dollars. It will over-look Veterans Park. Bricks will cost
$150 to have name engraved on them. Must be done by August 15th of each year. The bricks will be placed on the grounds and not the wall. He also showed a video for the architectural
plans of the Heritage Center. They would like to start breaking ground at the end of year 2020. He also talked about the Field of Valor requesting sponsors and explained the level
of sponsorship. He spoke about the fundraiser that he throws a big party for so people may contribute toward the funds to supporting Vets.
Blanche Brick is turned in the application and is wanting a Historic Marker for the A&M United Methodist Church. The structure was dedicated in 1950. She wants the marker to make known
of the site. She will also apply for the State Historic Marker. Steve Beachey will take care of this application. The anticipated date is for Veterans Day. The HPC Board will review
the application in the October meeting. If motion is approved, it will then go to City Council for approval.
Presentation for Texas Historic Marker for the Parkland Dedication for Steven C. Beachy was motioned first by Lou Hodges. Sherry Frisk second it. All were in favor and the motion
was passed unanimously.
CS Historical Project, Shirley, requested another year to research. She was given 1989 last meeting. She finished that year and was given 1990.
On Cemetery Projects, Sherry, is moving forward with the application and sent in the information for the Salem Cemetery. The designation must be granted and then the marker can be made.
Sherry’s son has taken pictures with the drone. A notification from the state will contact the Parks Department for further action.
The Historical Marker Program - application was sent by Shirley Dupriest to homeowners, Scott & Kelly McDermott, at 500 Fairview, College Station, TX 77840. They were wanting to know
the company that makes the plaques, which is TimeWorks. For the actual application, revisions were made by Gerald and Lou. On page 10 of the application, there is a section for preserving
a marker in the case of a business or homeowner closing down or changes business type and even moving. William Wright brought up protecting the integrity of the marker. There should
be something presented in writing to the Legal Department. They would make the approval and change the wording. Legal will need to change the policies to be specified if such marker
is moved or changed by the owner.
For the Oral History Interviews, Tiffany is back to transcribing. She has lost her intern.
For the Exploring History Luncheons, Jerry Cooper will speak in September about People who made a difference in our Community. The next lunch will be at Ringer Library.
For Project HOLD, Tiffany has approved the proofs of the Brazos Valley Community Memorial. She passed around the copy of the book.
For upcoming events – Lou will need a head count for the Boonville days on October 5th. He also needs to know who wants to participate. It will start at 8:30. Lou will have a Calvary
saddle on display. There are box lunches that you can purchase if you choose to work this.
