Historic Preservation Committee
Monday, August 5, 2019 – 4:00 pm

The City Council may or may not attend the Historic Preservation Committee Regular Meeting.

Called to order and announced a Quorum at 4 p.m. by Gerald Burgner.
William Wright and Julie Schultz had requests for absences. Lou Hodges asked for a motion to approve. Sherry Frisk second the motion. The vote was called. All were in favor. By
a unanimous vote, the motion was passed.
Marilyn Randall, made a motion to approve the June minutes. David Fujimoto, seconded the motion. The vote was called. All were in favor and the motion passed unanimously.
There were no visitors present at this meeting.
CS Historical Project, Shirley, requested another year to research. She was given 1989. She finished years 2003 & 2012.
On Cemetery Projects, Sherry, informed us that Cemeteries will need to have a Texas Historic Application in order to get a marker. Cemeteries are eligible for a marker after 50 years.
The application fee is $25. Sherry stated that her son has a drone to make getting aerial pictures easier in the future.
The Historical Marker Program application had revisions that were made by Lou and Gerald. All revision will be sent to the board for review.
For the Oral History Interviews, Tiffany has 6 interviews out for review and recently interviewed Steve Aldrich. She will be interviewing Councilmember, Linda Harvell this month. Tiffany,
has reached out to the owners of the Dixie Chicken for an interview. She is transcribing Sue Matthew’s interview.
For the Exploring History Luncheons, August luncheon will be at the Lincoln Recreation Center. Marilyn is waiting on Katy to update on equipment. On August 21st, a Neurologist, Dr.
James Lindley, will be speaking on Historic School Houses.
For Project HOLD, Tiffany has continued to collect newspaper articles to upload onto Project HOLD. She has uploaded pictures from Culpepper (pictures from the 1980’s), and received
maps from Public Works. Tiffany, is working with Pediment Publishing to look at page proofs for the forthcoming Brazos County picture book.
For upcoming events – Lou will need a head count for the Boonville days on October 5th. He also needs to know who wants to participate.
Per David Fujimoto, there is a current effort underway to allow folks to donate to the Brazos Valley Veteran’s Memorial. The website is below and, for a fee, folks can have a name etched
into the memorial…not bricks. The deadline for submissions is coming up soon: the 15th of August.
There were no reports from the Parks Director.
There were presentations or discussion on future agenda items. In the next meeting, we will discuss John Anderson and how to honor a family member by buying a brick. We will also discuss
Steven Beachy’s Parkland Dedication.
Presentations: Loud Hodges, brought an incense burner that belonged to his grandfather. Sherry, brought a letter from 1934 Acceptance in Dean of Arts & Sciences. She also brought
a tax receipt from 1955 and an electricity receipt for football housing in 1937.
Motion made to adjourn by Lou Hodges, seconded by Sherry Frisk, and carried by unanimous vote at 5:05PM.
