Monday, January 07, 2019 – 4:00 pm Municipal Court 300 Krenek Tap Road College Station, Texas 77842 The City Council may or may not attend the Historic Preservation Committee Regular Meeting. Present: Louis Hodges
Marilyn Randall Benjamin Zimmer Gerald Burgner William Wright Shirley Dupriest Willie Blackmon Linda Harvell; City Council Tiffany Gonzales; Historical Records Archivist 1. Called to order and announced a Quorum at 4 p.m. 2. Sherry Frisk requested an absence. Lou made a motion to approve her absence. William Wright seconded the motion. The vote was called. All were in favor and the motion passed
unanimously. 3. Lou Hodges made a motion to approve the December minutes. Willie Blackmon seconded the motion. The vote was called. All were in favor and the motion passed unanimously.
4. Blanche Brick, Anne Boykin and Allen Riggs were present as visitors. Anne Boykin informed the committee that Steve Beachy is working on ideas for a Native American pathway at Veteran’s Park, he is working on a County Historic Marker and may need the help of the committee. She also gave some suggestions of future projects that the HPC Committee might work on such as Street Names index and update the Historic Marker in
Project Hold.
5. Blanche Brick spoke about the College Station History Book. She encourages everyone to view the website. TKVW.com/30stories. David Schmitz stated that he will work with Jay Socol to get his website on the City page. Blanche Brick is still pursuing an author to do the traditional update to the original College Station History Book.
Shirley Dupriest gave an update on the Cemetery Project. She handed out the first list containing 140 significant people buried in the College Station Cemetery, and asked that members on the HPC pick a page or individual and so some research on them.
William Wright made a motion to approve the historic marker for New Victory Church
located on 1115 Detroit Street. Lou Hodges seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion passed unanimously. The marker will be presented at a future Council meeting. David Schmitz stated that the cost per Historic Marker is now $310. Shirley Dupriest made a motion to increase the fee for Historic Markers to $310. William Wright seconded the
motion. The vote was called and the motion passed unanimously.
Tiffany Gonzalez is working on Oral History interviews, she just finished up with Former Mayor Larry Ringer.
Ben is working on the schedule for 2019, he has speakers scheduled through April. Anne
Boykin stated that she has some ideas for future speakers and would be glad to help if needed. Tiffany has uploaded 63 photos and news articles form the 80s and 90s.
6. David Schmitz had no updates. 7. No upcoming events to add to calendar.
8. No future agenda items to mention.
9. Lou brought some items for the committee to look at. 10. Meeting was adjourned at 5:34 p.m.
