New member that will be in place of Andrea, and was present, is Jackie Rangel. 5. Blanche Brick was not present. However, she is still involved in helping get the College Station History Book created. Sherry Frisk, agreed to have just one person do the research for the History Book for the 85th Anniversary. She thought of Bill Page, who also writes, as a thought to do the research. She thought that a timeline could be typed up and the writer could fill in the rest. William Wright will take on collecting items for the book. Sherry, brought up creating the book like a photo album. There was interest in having a garage sale. Proceeds will go to the HPC budget that will go toward making the history book. Sherry Frisk has been focusing on the Washington Chapel Church and the Salem cemetery. Based on her research and that of Bill Page, archivist at A&M, Sherry Frisk reported that approximately 96 African-American names do not appear on the city databases as burials in the Salem Cemetery. Since the Salem plots were never platted like the rest of the newer sections of the College Station Cemetery, Sherry proposed that those names be added to the city database for historic and genealogical accuracy. Sherry, suggested that we move the current front sign specifically to the Shiloh section of the cemetery. She also proposed that we consider a new similar historic sign for the Salem section & one documenting the history of the City of College Station Cemetery for the front entrance of the cemetery. The possibility of doing a memorial garden area in the historic Salem & Shiloh sections of the cemetery was discussed. Gerald suggested the idea of getting help from A&M students to do this. Linda Harvell, mentioned to get with Jay Socol to let him know what we are doing so he can let the public know. Tiffany Gonzalez is working on Oral History interviews. She contacted Cynthia Mueller. Cynthia declined. Tiffany, will be working with Blanche Brick, with interviewing Tower Point developers to talk about growth in the area. Tiffany, will be hiring an intern to help transcribe for the CS Oral History. This will be a paid position. Exploring History Lunch – Gerald Burgner passed out expenses and revenue sheet for 2018. Linda Harvell recommended going with new restaurants instead of getting sandwiches. The idea was brought up about getting sponsorships for the lunches. The lunch price may increase. This change won’t be in effect until the lunches get moved to the LRC. Tiffany has updated master list for building marker. 6. Time ran out. Will go over non-discussed items in next meeting. 7. Discussion on future goals and projects of the HPC for 2019 to be continued at the March meeting. 8. No report from the Parks and Recreation Department. 9.
