Historic Preservation Committee
Monday, April 1, 2019 – 4:00 pm Municipal Court

The City Council may or may not attend the Historic Preservation Committee Regular Meeting.

1. Called to order and announced a Quorum at 4 p.m. by Gerald Burgner.
2. There were three requests for absences. Linda Harvell made a motion to approve. Louis Hodges second the motion. The vote was called. All members were in favor. Motion passed unanimously. 3. Willie Blackmon, made a motion to approve the March minutes. Shirley Dupriest, seconded
the motion. The vote was called. All were in favor and the motion passed unanimously. 4. We had one visitors: Janice Matthews. 5. To look up past photos for the CS Historical Book, you can go to Google Team Drive.
Shirley Dupriest will collect research for the book for the year 2003. Sherry shared that there are 21 grave sites that have tomb stones that are not in the database. There are 35 more that she is still doing research on. She would like to see pictures of the College Station Cemetery updated online. Sherry brought up the issue of the resale options. They need more clarification on cemetery policies. David Schmitz will put this as an agenda item for PARKS Board. Shirley Dupriest received a historical marker from Janice Matthews. Shirley made a motion to approve the marker that was the home of Professor Bryson and owned by Ken & Janice Matthews. Gerald Burgner second the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed unanimously.
Gerald Burgner brought up the matter of removal of a marker. David Schmitz, Gerald, and Lou Hodges, all met with Legal on the proper procedure of how to go about removing a marker. They will meet more on how to do this legally. For Oral History, Tiffany Gonzalez has 2 interviews set up for the month of April. Marilyn Randall has speaker set up all through August. For Project HOLD, Tiffany has uploaded 58 photos and more maps. Sherry and Shirley, have given her some documents to upload, as well.
6. For upcoming events, Willie Blackmon will be attending the ribbon cutting of the new track & field at A&M. This will be held Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 10:30am. 7. David Schmitz, reported and discussed that Ian Whittenton was contacted by a group
(Pediment Publishing) that creates Historic books. The need to have the proper permissions
to obtain photos by the city. Tiffany reported that Pediment Publishing wants her to write up a contract by next month. Shirley made a motion to proceed to work with Pediment Publishing. David Fujimoto second the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed unanimously. Tiffany will let everyone know once contract is set up.
8. There weren’t any presentations or discussion on future agenda items. 9. Lou Hodges brought a brick from the 1830’s at a brick yard in Hearne, TX. The brick was passed around to the committee. Pictures were brought by Sherry Frisk, of her house that
was moved off A&M campus. These pictures were also passed around for everyone to see.
10. Motion made to adjourn by Sherry Frisk, seconded by Lou Hodges, and carried by unanimous vote at 5:30PM.
