TRACK SUMMARY
The A 1\I Consolidated track team in 1956 finished fourth in District 88-B, being a mere ten points
behind the loop champion. Six of Coach Larry Hayes' charges qualified for the regional meet, and one, Dick
Hickman, reached the state meet,
Bill Hall (440 yard dash, pole vault, and both relay foursomes) , Dan Davis (220 yard dash and both
relays) , Don Tax (broad jump, 180 yard low hurdles, and both relay teams) . Ed Linton (discus) , Bobby
Witcher (440 yard relay) , and. Dick Hickman (880 yard run and mile relay) all qualified for the regional
carnival by finishing third or better in district competition.
Hall won first place in the pole vault, and Tax did likewise in the broad jump to account for the
Tigers' only blue ribbons in the district meet.
Hickman captured first place in the 880 in regional to advance to the state rneet, where he placed
seventh with a very fine time record.
Other C. H. S. thinly -clads competing in the district meet were Donald Patton, Bill Breazeale, Jack
McNeely, and John Caywood. The Tigers also competed in the Dayton. invitational., where they won first place in the medley relay,
and the Cameron Relays.
SWIMMING
John Harrington, for the second time an
All -.American in backstroke, was Consolidated's
one-man swimming team for 1956.
In the University of Texas Invitational
of January 21, John won the 100 yard back-
stroke with 1 :01. 7 . He placed third in the 150
yard individual medley.
in State Meet on March 24, John won the
100 yard backstroke with a 1 :01.7, and second
in the 120 yard individual medley with a
1 :14.2, which was 2 seconds better than the
old record.
Highland Park won the meet, with Alamo
Heights of San Antonio second and Reagan of
Houston third. Consolidated was sixth, beating
the other two one-man teams Thomas Jeffer-
son of San Antonio and Robert E. Lee of
Baytown.
