Learn the concepts and techniques of portraying
a character through body movement (miming)

OUTDOOR WILDERNESS SURVIVAL DAY CAMP

Join us for a week-long outdoor survival adventure
day camp! We will teach outdoor survival skills and
play games to increase each camper's awareness
of the outdoors. Campers should bring a water
bottle, snack and arrive with sunscreen on each
day. Activities are conducted in a safe environment.
Campers need to bring a snack and drink.
Day 1: Explore Indian and pioneer culture. Learn to
find and build shelter, discover ways to keep from

getting lost, and search for and identify edible and
medicinal wild plants.
Day 2: Discover how to find and purify water for
drinking, make a fire by friction, track animals, and
make Indian hunting tools.
Day 3: Learn how to make rope, survival baskets,
bows and arrows, and primitive animal traps and
snares. Also learn how to throw spears.
Day 4: Learn outdoor woodsmen skills to enable us
to better observe wildlife. Practice fire building skills
and how to light a campfire with only one match.
Day 5: Make soap and toothpaste out of native
plants and learn the techniques needed for campfire
cooking. Week ends with a final review and
graduation when each camper receives an Indian
arrowhead.

Competitive Adult Drill Tennis is for players
who have received prior instruction by a tennis
professional on the basics of tennis strokes, and
who are interested in playing in tournaments or
leagues. Each stroke will be covered through fun,
active, live-ball drills and match play. Strategy
and on-court tactics also will be discussed and
integrated into drills.

Start Smart Sports introduces 4-6 year-olds to
sports through a step-by-step approach that builds
confidence and self-esteem in a fun, positive
environment. As the program progresses and
children show improvement, the skills are altered so
that each child remains challenged. Parents will get
to spend quality time with their child while learning
how to properly teach and support them in sports.
Teams will not play games, only scrimmages.
Session is six weeks and participants can choose
either Monday or Tuesday nights.

The Girls Volleyball League introduces players to
volleyball while providing a safe, fun environment

TSUNAMI SWIM TEAM
The goal of the summer swim team is to introduce
participants to competitive swimming. Dual meets are
held against teams from surrounding areas. Qualified
swimmers will also have the opportunity to participate
in the TAAF Games of Texas. Participants must be
able to swim the length of a 25-yard pool (any stroke),
and be registered in the CSISD or live in a city that
does not have a swim team.
Purchase of team swim suit is optional but
encouraged. Registration forms must be
accompanied with entry fee and a copy of birth
certificate. If the swimmer participated in Tsunami in
2000 or later, a copy of their birth certificate is already
on file. Fee will be waived for age 15-18 swimmers
who compete in at least three meets and volunteer
with the team for two hours per week. A 50 percent
fee reduction for participants whose parents work as
stroke and turn judges at three or more meets.

WATER FITNESS
These classes provide enjoyable and effective
exercise to increase cardiopulmonary capacity,
strength and flexibility. Ages 15 and older,
physically fit, pre-natal, post-natal, post-
operative, those with arthritis, those with
muscle injuries or sedentary individuals are
invited to join.

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD
TRAINING PROGRAM
Are you at least 15 years old and looking for
a great summer job or challenging career?
Get lifeguard certified! Through videos, group
discussion and hands-on practice, you will learn
patron rescue, surveillance skills, first aid and
CPR/AED. Participants will receive a two-year
CPR/AED certification and two-year lifeguarding
certification.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Candidates must be at least 15 years old and
pass certain swimming requirements. To work for
the City of College Station, candidates must be
at least 16 years old.
• Candidates must be of mature and dependable
character.

• Candidates must swim 300 yards continuously,
using these strokes in the following order: 100
yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and
a stabilizing, propellant kick. Rhythmic breathing
can be performed either by breathing to the side
or to the front; 100 yards of breaststroke using a
pull, breath, kick and glide sequence; 100 yards
of either the front crawl or breaststroke. The 100
yards may be a combination of front crawl or
breaststroke (no time requirement).
• Starting in the water, candidates must swim
20 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke,
surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound
object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back
to the starting point while maintaining two hands
on the object and exit the water without using a
ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
• Candidates must attend every session at the
times listed by the facility. Attendance does not
guarantee lifeguard certification. Candidates
must pass written and practical exams. You
may download a lifeguard manual or purchase
required books from redcrossstore.org.

Book Cover Illustration I Due May 31
Pick a published book, design a new cover and turn

Guess the book by only the cover. Book covers are

website. Turn in your answers and your contact
info. A winner will be drawn if there is a tie. The
winner will get a free book.
Art Competition: What is Green? I Due July 31
Draw, paint, sculpt, collage, use colored pencils to
express what green means to you. The winner gets

Match Songs to a Book I Due Sept. 30
Make believe you are making a play list for a teen
book to be made into a movie. Turn in your list of
songs and the title of the book, along with your
name and contact information. The winner gets a
CD of their choice.

Our monthly anime club meets once a month to

your work until it is exceptional. Change how

Beginning drawing class designed to give students
a solid foundation in the basics of drawing,
including basic theory, perspective and principles
for compositions. Basic drawing supplies are

pool. Facilities include aquatic offices, bathhouse
