According to the U.S. Census Bureau,
the nation’s population has a
distinctly older age profile, due largely to
the aging baby boom generation. With that
increase in median age, the definition of a
senior citizen has changed. Today’s seniors
are active, social, vibrant, and live longer,
healthier, and more fulfilling lifestyles.
The College Station Senior Games
offers athletes 50 years-and-older the
opportunity to compete in 13 sports at
venues throughout College Station. Known
for promoting physical and mental health
and fitness among Texas senior citizens,
this event encourages seniors to maintain
healthy lifestyles and social relationships,

and 100-meter freestyle. Barbara Chenette

are just two examples who prove that
throwing in the towel is not an option
when you yearn for competition and
have a burning desire to push the limits.
The College Station Senior Games
have developed into a well-run and
highly respected event. As a result of
successfully operating the local games,
the Parks & Recreation Department has
been named to the state and national

Ringer Library Appeals to All Ages
The Larry J. Ringer Library offers a vast
collection of reading materials, events and
classes for citizens of all ages. Highlighted
below are a few of our available programs:
LITERACY START BEFORE BIRTH
Our Literacy Starts Before Birth workshop
focuses on techniques caregivers and
educators can implement to help babies
and children develop early literacy
skills. This workshop is broken into two
segments consisting of a one-hour class
designed for both you and your child,
and a two-hour, more formal class for
adults only. Teachers may receive two
CEU’s, if approved by school director,
for attending the adult-only workshop.
TODDLER STORYTIMES
The library has several storytime sessions
designed for toddlers and parents.
Depending on ages and preferences, we
have two weekly toddler programs to
choose from. Wiggle Worms is for walking
toddlers who love to be on the move. We
offer four sessions every week - two on
Monday mornings and two on Thursday
mornings. The sessions are full of music,
bubbles, puppets and singing. We also
have a Toddler Storytime on Wednesday
mornings that focuses more on crafts and
books. Whatever your toddler’s personality,
we have you covered.
ADULT PROGRAMS
Want some quiet time away from the
kiddos? We’ve got several book clubs,
crafting and coloring classes, and a
new STEAM (science, technology,
engineering, art and math) club for adults!
