With so many different lifestyles in one place, it’s important to find balance and understanding to promote harmonious neighborhood relations. SAY HOWDY & EXCHANGE INFORMATION Whether you’re a student or a permanent resident, be sure to introduce yourself to your neighbors and exchange contact information in case of emergencies or other problems. It’s also a good idea to contact them before you host a large event to ask them to contact you if it becomes too noisy. It’s better they call you instead of the police. KEEP THE NOISE DOWN Per city code, it’s unlawful for anyone to willfully make or allow continued loud noise, especially from 10 p.m.-7 a.m. This includes barking dogs. As a general rule, if you can hear the noise at the end of your property line, then it’s too loud and everyone on your lease risks receiving a citation. Per city ordinance, you must remove your garbage and recycling containers from the curb within 12 hours of collection. If you have a blue, single-stream recycling container that is collected by Brazos Valley Recycling, make sure you are only placing clean, acceptable items in it. The list of items is printed on top of the container. Anything not on that list should be put in the garbage. The only recyclable that should be bagged in clear plastic is shredded paper. Bagging other items isn’t necessary and could cause significant and costly damage to the sorting equipment. Mosquito Abatement Program One of the most environmentally-friendly and effective ways to protect yourself and loved ones from mosquito-borne diseases is by utilizing mosquito dunks. Mosquito dunks are small, donut-shaped objects that slowly release a biological mosquito larvicide at the water’s surface for 30 days or more under normal conditions. This larvicide gradually settles in the water where it is eaten by mosquito larvae and kills them. The bacteria in the dunks will not hurt pets, birds, children or wildlife. Dunks should be placed where mosquitoes breed, such as birdbaths, rain barrels, ponds, sewers, gutters, creeks, streams, drainage channels or any other area with standing or slow-moving water. Each dunk covers about 100 square feet and can be broken up if treating smaller areas. For areas with moving water or where the dunk might wash away, you can tie the dunk to a weight or stake it in the ground. The City of College Station’s Mosquito Abatement Program is providing free dunks this year, while supplies last. Dunks can be picked up at the Neighborhood Services and City Secretary’s offices in City Hall located at 1101 Texas Ave. Please check availability before you arrive by calling 979.764.6262 or emailing bmoore@cstx.gov. Avoid Parking Citations Here are the 10 most frequent parking transgressions we see throughout the year. The first five are mandated by state law, while the rest are violations of city ordinances: 1.Parking within 30 feet of a traffic control device such as a stop sign, yield sign or flashing light. 2.Parking facing traffic — your car must always be parked in the direction of traffic flow. 3.Parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. 4.Parking within 20 feet of a marked or unmarked crosswalk. 5.Parking in a handicap space without a handicap placard. 6.Parking on a yard. 7.Parking at expired meters. 8.Overstaying allotted time periods in time-limited parking. 9.Parking in loading zones. 10.Blocking driveways so residents can’t get in or out. Also, remember that it’s illegal to operate a business in a residential neighborhood in College Station, and selling parking spaces on your property is considered a business. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
