your own, complaints can be reported to
the College Station Police Department at
979.764.3600.
It’s also a good idea to exchange contact
information in case of emergencies or
other problems. Be sure to let them know
if you’re hosting a large event and for them
to contact you if it becomes too noisy. Its
better they call you instead of the police.
PROPERLY DISPOSE OF TRASH
Our Public Works Department provides
bulky, brush, garbage and recycling
collections once a week. All items should
be placed by the curb by 8 a.m. on your
designated collection day.
Household garbage should be bagged,
tied and securely stored in your provided
container. The container lid should be
closed at all times, so litter doesn’t spread
and to prevent animals from getting into
it. Do not pile bags on top or around your
container or the sanitation truck will not be
able to collect it. After your trash has been
collected, you have 12 hours to remove
your container from the curb. If you have
too much garbage, you can request extra

College Station is home to many
college students, families and retirees
which brings a unique blend of residents to
the community. As of July 2015, the city’s
population was 103,245 based on issued
residential Certificates of Occupancy.
With so many different lifestyles in one
place, it’s important to find balance and
understanding to promote harmonious
neighborhood relations.
SAY HOWDY & KEEP THE NOISE DOWN
Whether you’re a student or a permanent
resident, be sure to introduce yourself to
your neighbors and spend a few moments
getting to know them. Are they a young
family with a new baby, an elderly couple,
a person who has to be at work at 5 a.m. or
a student trying to study? Always put these
things into consideration when you’re
planning a potentially noisy event.
Per city code, it’s unlawful for anyone to
willfully make or allow continued loud
noise, especially from 10 p.m.-7 a.m.
This includes barking dogs. As a general
rule, if you can hear the noise at the
end of your property line, then it’s too
loud and everyone on your lease risks
receiving a citation. If you’re bothered

garbage service or an additional container
by calling 979.764.3690. The city also
provides free curbside recycling, learn
more at cstx.gov/recycle.
Bulky collection includes items that are
too large to fit in the regular garbage
container. It does not include bags of
household garbage. Brush collection is
for tree limbs, shrubs, woody vines, and
other herbaceous or woody plants. Items
for collection should be neatly stacked
within three feet of the curb at the front
of your residence. If you have both brush
and bulky items, separate the piles. Don’t
place items in the street or sidewalk, closer
than four feet from fixed objects, on top
of sprinkler heads/meters/electrical boxes,
or under low tree limbs/overhead wires.

collections, email pubworks@cstx.gov, call

AVOID CODE VIOLATIONS
Many people don’t even think about city
codes until they receive an unwelcome
citation. Here are just a few:
Parking: Don’t park vehicles or motorcycles
on the grass, and be sure not to block
driveways, mailboxes or roadways.
Residential Occupancy: Since at least
1972, the city has not allow for more than
four unrelated individuals to occupy a
dwelling unit. As an example, four friends
or siblings living together in a home are
complying with the ordinance, but if an
unrelated friend moved in, it would be a
violation.
Yards: Weeds and grass shouldn’t exceed
12 inches in height.
Familiarize yourself with all city codes by
visiting cstx.gov/codeenforcement.

Warrant Amnesty & Roundup
A warrant amnesty period will occur Oct.
12-30. The amnesty period, held twice
each year, allows citizens with outstanding
warrants to avoid paying a $50 per case
warrant fee if fines are paid in full. No
partial payment schedules will be allowed if
citizens want to avoid the $50 fee. The City
of College Station accepts cash, cashier’s
check, credit cards, money orders, and
personal checks. Outstanding warrants
cannot be paid via College Station’s online
citation payment system.
Law enforcement officials will conduct a
“warrant roundup” Oct. 31-Nov. 15 to arrest
citizens who failed to pay their fines during
the designated amnesty period.
The College Station Municipal Court
publishes a list of all outstanding warrants
at cstx.gov/warrants, which allows anyone
to check their warrant status if a citation
was issued by the College Station Police
Department. Citizens also may contact the
City of College Station Municipal Court at
979.764.3683.

What’s new for the Nov. 3 election? Might be vote centers.
A vote center, also called a super precinct,
is a polling place that combines multiple
precincts allowing voters to choose from
any polling place within the jurisdiction (in
this case, the county). These centers allow
voters to cast their ballots on Election
Day at any vote center in the jurisdiction,
regardless of their residential address. It
works just like early voting. The Brazos
County Clerk has applied to the Secretary
of State for permission to participate in the
county-wide Polling Place Program. A task
force comprised of representatives from
throughout the county worked diligently
to prepare a list of possible vote center
locations, and County Commissioners held
a public hearing to gather input on those
locations. If approved by the Secretary of
State, voters can expect to vote on Nov. 3 at
any of the approved locations listed at
cstx.gov/elections.

Novedades para la elección de noviembre
cstx.gov/elections.
