Attic Insulation 101
Insulation reduces the energy needed to
cool or heat your home. Proper insulation
of the attic floor will help maintain desired
temperature in the home. The two primary
types of attic insulation products are blown
fiberglass and cellulose.
For existing homes in our area with loose-
fill attic insulation types, R30 and R38 are
preferred. R30 thickness should be 12 inches
for fiberglass and 9 inches for cellulose. R38
should be 16 inches for fiberglass and 12
inches for cellulose.
One may install the insulation themselves
or enlist a local contractor. Either way, a
properly insulated attic will hold conditioned
air at desired temperature longer and save
energy in the process.
Visit cstx.gov/energy or call 979.764.6343
for more energy saving tips.
