Celebrate the New Year Safely
Know the rules on fireworks
Starting the New Year with a bang can
be a lot of fun, but if your celebration
includes fireworks, the College Station Fire
Department encourages you to stay safe
and follow the law.
Possession or discharge of fireworks within
the city limits of College Station or Bryan,
or within 5,000 feet of the city limits, is a
misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up
to $2,000. Fireworks users also should get
permission from landowners beforehand.
The National Fire Protection Association
discourages the use of consumer fireworks
and encourages people to enjoy public
displays conducted by trained professionals
whenever possible.
To learn more, contact Bart Humphreys,
CSFD Public Information Officer, at
979.764.3708 or bhumphreys@cstx.gov.

Christmas Tree Recycling
Curbside service on collection day
The City of College Station encourages
residents to recycle their Christmas trees
by leaving them at their curb on scheduled
collection days through Friday, Jan. 7.
Recycled trees are either composted or
chipped and spread through city parks.
Trees should be placed at the curb by 8 a.m.
on the scheduled neighborhood brush day.
All accessories must be removed. For more
information, visit cstx.gov/sanitation.

Apply for Citizens University
Register now through Jan. 11
It’s unlikely that your federal government
would open its doors to you for several
weeks to meet those in charge, to ask
questions and to share your opinions. Odds
are slim of such happening at the state level,
either. But that’s exactly what we’re doing at
College Station City Hall: Inviting you to be
part of our annual Citizens University! You
will get to talk to those who build budgets,
construct capital projects, plan for growth,
keep the lights on and neighborhoods safe.
The free course begins Jan. 28 and runs
through April 15, with no classes scheduled
during spring break. Sessions are conducted
Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. Participants must
be at least 21 years old, a Brazos County
resident, registered to vote locally and not
be candidates for political office.

Notice anything different? Your
Inside College Station newsletter
isn’t quite as colorful as it used to
be. We’re now printing in black

As you might’ve guessed, the
reason for these changes is to
trim costs wherever possible, and
these measures will save the city
