Alarm Program
A City Ordinance Friendly Reminder
If you are an alarm system or device user,
you should have an emergency response
card on file with the College Station Police
Department (CSPD). The response card
needs to contain the names and current
telephone numbers of at least three
individuals who can enter the premises to
silence the alarm. The individuals who you
name on your card must have a key to the
premises, the code to the alarm and be able
to respond within 30 minutes.
If the alarm goes off, two CSPD officers will
respond to your address, check building
perimeters and make entry if necessary.
It is important for you or your emergency
response contact to respond quickly, so that
the inside of the property can be searched.
A false alarm is any alarm that generates
law enforcement response to the site when
no criminal activity exists. Alarm users are
allowed three false alarms in a preceding 12
month period without penalty. After this,
a user will be assessed a fine based on the
following schedule:
False alarms Fine per alarm
1-3 $0
4-5 $50 each
6-7 $75 each
8+ $100 each
Failure to take the necessary corrective
action to prevent false alarm reoccurrences
and/or nonpayment of any false alarm
penalties may result in a written notice
ordering a disconnect of such alarm system,
until such corrective action or payment of
fee is made. You can now pay fines online at
cstx.gov/alarm.
For more information, call CSPD’s non-
emergency line at 979.764.3600.

What’s Your Water IQ?
Know your water
Do you know where College Station’s water
comes from? If you answered groundwater,
you’re correct! Most Texans don’t know
where their water comes from, but knowing
that is the first step towards learning how to
conserve your water.
Get to Know Your Water Bill
Be sure to look for the MGW on your water
bill, as well as the total dollar amount. Each
MGW represents 1,000 gallons of water. For
example, 25 MGW means 25,000 gallons of
water. If the MGW numbers increase, you
may have a leak or you may be watering
much more than you think.
Don’t Over Water
In the summer, one inch of water per
week – from rain or an irrigation system –
will keep most Texas grasses healthy. But,
how much water is an inch? To determine
how long you should run your sprinklers,
place straight-edged cans at different
distances away from the sprinkler and run
it for 15 minutes. Measure the amount of
water collected in each can, multiply that
number by four, and that is your sprinkler’s
application rate in inches per hour.
Avoid Water Runoff
Watering in heavy clay soils is tough to do
without runoff! Observe your sprinkler
system, and water as long as possible,
shutting off the sprinklers at the point
of runoff. Let the water soak in, and keep
doing this “cycle & soak” until one inch of
water has been applied. Try to do this no
more than one or two days per week.

visit cstx.gov/water or call 979.764.6223.
