Sun Source Solar Energy
Rebate Program --------------
College Station Utilities is now offering a
rebate for photovoltaic solar installations
to their electric utility residential and
commercial customers.
For an average residential customer in
College Station, a solar energy system may
produce 10 percent to 15 percent of the
home’s annual energy needs. The size of
the solar installation chosen will depend on
the amount of the investment that you are
willing to make, the rate of return that you
expect on your investment and the amount
of unobstructed roof space that is available.
Deed covenants and restrictions in your
neighborhood with regard to solar energy
systems may prohibit you from installing a
solar installation without approval of your
homeowners association.
To be a good candidate for a solar installation,
there must be unobstructed, non-shaded
roof area at an orientation other than north.
It requires roughly 120 square feet of roof
space for each kW or 1,000 watts that will be
produced. Solar energy systems will range
in cost from $6 to $10 per watt or $6,000 to
$10,000 per kW. Therefore, the cost to install
a 4 kW system could range from $24,000 to
$40,000.
