NEIGHBORHOOD INTEGRITY INITIATIVES
Inside College Station
May 2008
From the City of College Station Public Communications Department • College Station, Texas
College Station City Council
members decided at the March
27 Regular Council Meeting to
proceed with several initiatives
that seek to address a number of
challenges facing College Station
neighborhoods.
The City’s Planning & Development
Services will lead the charge to
develop a variety of strategies
under the umbrella of a “Strong
and Sustainable Neighborhoods”
policy initiative. The strategy will
be a comprehensive approach to
addressing neighborhood issues,
featuring:
• Targeted neighborhood focus in
the areas of code enforcement,
planning, parking and neighbor
relations
• Active involvement of all
stakeholders (City staff,
neighborhoods, students, Texas
A&M University Administration,
investors, etc.)
• Development of a city-wide
rental registration program
to maintain accurate home
ownership statistics and
accountability
• Sustain and grow City
partnerships with the university
and neighborhood associations.
In addition to these strategies,
the City is coordinating several
positive public outreach efforts.
They include monthly Coffee with
the Mayor sessions, featuring
Mayor Ben White engaging
citizens in dialogue about city-
wide issues, and CS 101 classes,
a cooperative effort between
the City and the TAMU Student
Government Association to teach
college students about various
neighborhood codes and related
topics.
Before finalizing its policy
initiatives, City staff will present
them at a public meeting for
Council approval.
