Inside College Station March 2008 From the City of College Station Public Communications Department • College Station, Texas Hundreds of College Station citizens participated in the City’s Capital Improvement Program outreach efforts during the month of January. It is projected the City will have capacity to issue $60 million in bonds for street, parks and facility capital projects over the next five years, according to City of College Station Chief Financial Officer Jeff Kersten. The City will place a bond referendum on a ballot for voter approval in November. Hundreds of residents attended the four public meetings held throughout College Station. More than 200 residents commented on-line through the City’s special forum located on its website. The community shared with staff and the City Council their desires for improvements to certain roads, the need for bike paths and a senior center, as well as the interest in building a skate park. There was also input on a new City Hall and fire station. These are just a few of the projects being considered by the city. The list of possible projects now rests with a 31-member volunteer Citizen Advisory Committee that is meeting weekly through the spring to shorten the long list of suggested projects. The committee will present a recommended list of projects to the City Council, who will then make the final decision on which projects to place on the ballot for voter approval. For more information on the bond election, video clips of previous meetings, and a list of possible capital improvement projects, visit the City’s website listed below.
