From the City of College Station Public Communications Department • College Station, Texas
Have you ever wanted to help the
environment but felt that the tools
and resources were out of reach?
Now you can throw all of your cares
to the wind, literally, thanks to Wind
Watts, a new wind energy program
offered by College Station Utilities.
Seeking renewable sources of en-
ergy is part of College Station’s new
“green” initiative aimed at creating a
sustained quality of life for local resi-
dents by bringing all environmental
efforts together under one program.
The ultimate goal of energy conser-
vation is to reduce harmful carbon di-
oxide emissions and to conserve our
resources for generations to come.
Wind energy has many environmen-
tal benefits. It produces no emissions,
which means it doesn’t contribute to
smog, mercury contamination, wa-
ter withdrawal, or particulate-related
health effects. Also, unlike conven-
tional fossil fuels, wind energy is in-
exhaustible and infinitely renewable.
to supply approximately 3,000 resi-
dential customers of College Station
Utilities in 2009. In 2015 the city will
increase the purchase of wind energy
to 30 megawatts.
Although many local businesses have
inquired about purchasing renewable
energy, the City is currently only of-
fering its wind energy supply to resi-
dential customers.
Wind Watts will become available in
January of 2009, and residential cus-
tomers will have the option to pur-
chase wind power in 10%, 50%, and
100% increments.
Opting for wind energy has substan-
tial and tangible benefits for anyone
who wants to make a difference in
reducing their carbon footprint. Our
residents are demanding environ-
mentally safe solutions, and this wind
energy alternative attempts to meet
that demand.
