Points of history are inscribed in brick pavers in the path every 20 ft. The path was dedicated in 2007. Liberty or Death Dedicated 2 July 2010 Katchi Kapshida Dedicated 11 November 2010 THE SITES Markers and Benches--Granite markers for each station are already in place along the walking path. Steel benches are along the trail. Interpretive Panels--There are 22 interpretive panels, one for each war including the War for Texas Independence. Two panels are dedicated to the Civil War; and three to WWII to depict the Europe- Africa-Middle East Theater of Operation, the Pacific Theater of Operations and the Home Front. Each panel displays the US flag, president, campaign streamer, globe, uniforms, weapons, memorabilia and statistics for each war. Noted history professors and historians from Texas A&M University, other universities and military facilities, led by BVVM board member and A&M professor Joseph G. “Chip” Dawson, have written the text to accompany each panel. Panels are 2’ x 3’ and were designed by BVVM board member Anne Boykin. A $5,000 tax deductible contribution will cover the cost of a bench (with your name on a plaque), interpretive panel, and granite marker. THE MEMORIALS When a life size bronze sculpture of a soldier from that particular war is added to a war site along the trail, it becomes a war memorial. The first four statues for the American Revolution, the War for Texas Independence, and the Korean War (a two- man statue) were designed by J. Payne Lara of Navasota, Texas. A $40,000 tax deductible contribution will erect a soldier statue on the site converting it to a memorial. Come and Take It Dedicated 2 October 2010 The Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial Board of Directors is offering citizens of the Brazos Valley the opportunity to participate in the newest addition to the Veterans Park and Athletic Complex: the Lynn Stuart Pathway. Dedicated to the memory of U.S. Army Reserve Brigadier General Louis Lynn Stuart, Jr., who served as chairman of fundraising for the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial, General Stuart was instrumental in development of the park into the amazing facility that it is today. The pathway is a memorial walk through the history of the 17 major wars fought by our nation, beginning with the American Revolution and continuing through the Global War on Terror. In addition, it includes the War for Texas Independence. The 3,060 ft. history path is constructed around the existing Memorial for All Veterans of all United States wars. Winding throughout the 12-acre site, memorials have been placed along the path commemorating the sacrifices of veterans during each major war in our nation’s past. Also along the path are steel benches with donor plaques, interpretive historical panels and granite markers. This pathway serves as a learning tool for students, residents, as well as numerous out of town visitors who use the park throughout the year.
