Call to Order
The 75th Anniversary Committee was called to order by Chair Linda Harvell at 8:30 a.m. on October 24, 2013 in the College Station City Hall, 1101 Texas Avenue, College Station, TX 77840.
2. Hear Visitors
Recognized visitor Mike Luther.
Mayor Nancy Berry stopped in to thank all of the members for their work on this celebration.
3. Consider Approval of Previous Minutes
MOTION: The Committee voted to approve the minutes.
4. Sponsorship and Recognition of Sponsors
Mike Neu displayed VIP lanyards and is working on the language for the card that will hang from them. Sherry Frisk will look into ribbons for special recognition of sponsors, to possibly
hang from the lanyard as well. Flower donations are still being sought for display.
5. Promotion and Media
Mike Neu has completed and displayed for the committee the participation plaques for the car show participants. During the classic film showing on November 14th he will arrange fliers
to be distributed.
Ben White suggested that a letter be sent to all former mayors personally inviting them to the event.
6. Bush Library Exhibit Update
Mike Neu and Tracy Paine reported that the staff has returned to work at the Bush Library and the exhibit is showing progress with the painting being completed and the assembly of several
panels has begun.
Charles Gilbert reported that the model of the train and station is ready for display.
Linda Harvell’s daughter and Mike Neu are working to reserve the copyright to a video for “Campus Connections” at the exhibit.
7. Homecoming Events, planning
November 12th VIP event:
Mike Neu and Tracy Paine reported that VIP event has been rescheduled for November 12th and will now be a shared event with Insite Magazine.
The exhibit is still set for a November 16th public opening, but the committee agreed that VIPs at this “sneak peek” event should be given a tour of the exhibit with committee members
acting as hosts. The following members volunteered for this honor: Scott Simpson, Jerry Cooper, Henry Mayo, Mayor Ben White, Tom Taylor, and Linda Harvell. Committee members will
receive some form of docent training.
It was also noted that spouses of committee members and VIPs may attend this event.
Friday, November 15 Homecoming event at Southwood:
Committee discussed the dinner and event at the Southwood Community Center at Brian Bachmann Park. Currently, 170 reservations for the dinner have been received.
Linda Harvell gave notice that a 40’ x 60’ tent, accommodating 200 persons, has been secured for the event, it was determined that the tent should be secured by water barrels to avoid
accidents with underground utilities. The tent provider will be contacted about the cost associated with this change.
David Schmitz, Parks Director will inquire about the permit and officers required for the JJ’s Liquors cash bar.
Dress code for committee members will be khaki colored slacks with maroon shirts.
The following individuals volunteered to set-up for this event: Sherry Frisk (tentative), Scott Simpson, Sarah Hensz, Margaret Godfrey, Jerry Cooper, Gary Ives, BB Holland, Tom Taylor,
and Linda Harvell.
Saturday November 16th Event, Bush Library and Grounds:
Discussion on scheduling speakers, co-coordinating poster signings, who will be honored, and a historic theme or message. Mike Neu will schedule a interview for the opening.
Allison Meserole has been in contact with local personalities to perform duties of announcing, including Ben Downs and Chase Murphy as possible participants.
Gary Ives suggests that the bagpipes perform several shorter sets.
Allison Meserole has confirmed that the Brazos Valley Community Band would perform a longer set to help fill in for dropped performers.
A Story Room will be available at the event and from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Roger Garrett and Jessy Compere of KORA 98.3 FM will be interviewing. A list of interviewees is needed, to be
interviewed for 10-15 minutes each to fill the interview time. Awards the room will remain open for storytelling to the public.
Ribbon cutting tentatively scheduled for 9:45 a.m.
Reveille will attend from 3-5 p.m.
Linda Harvell will send Mike Neu a list of people to be invited to this event.
1938 House Signage:
Jerry Cooper notified the committee that the home signage is ready for distribution. Mike Neu will work on a press release.
8. Report- Car Show
B. B. Holland reported that enrollment is steady at an estimated 45-50 cars for the show. Committee discussed overflow parking for support vehicles for those showing.
The committee received an offer to volunteer from Lillian Townsend, a pageant queen who has offered to attend the event. Linda Harvell is attempting to contact her.
9. A&M Garden Club
Linda Harvell reported that the rededication is set.
10. THE NEXT MEETING OF THE 75th ANNIVERSARY PLANNING COMMITTEE IS SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY, October 31, 2013.

MOTION: There being no further business, the Regular Meeting of the 75th Anniversary Committee was adjourned at 9:52 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2013.
