The bulk of the planning and expense of this project is being handled by an ad hoc committee, ordained by city council. All monies raised by donations from residents and local businesses are being funneled through the city’s finance office. A reunion event is also planned, and though it will not take place at the library, it has been included in this schedule in order to give a full view of the festivities. The 3,000 square foot exhibit will be divided into 14 different sections to display the rich 75 years of College Station history. The train depot entrance and model train display, along with the railway-inspired signs listing the names of the donors, will pay homage to College Stations humble beginnings as nothing more than a railroad stop. A vintage living room and maps of the area will tell the story of the historic homes that once dotted main campus. Special sections of the exhibit will highlight everyday life in College Station: the schools, government, businesses and media, along with a genealogy section explaining some prominent local families. College Station is a town rich in tradition, faith, pride and service to others, and the exhibit will prominently feature that in the community spirit, military and Texas A&M sections. Visitors will be given an opportunity to add their own stories on the memory wall, and local art will also be on display.
