BRYAN + COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM
• ADVISORY BOARD '
Bylaws adopted January 20, 1998
MEMBERSHIP The Board shall be comprised of eight members. Four members from
Bryan shall be appointed by the Community Librarian and four members from College
Station shall be appointed by the College Station City Council. Initially, each city will
appoint two members for one-year terms and two members for two-year terms. Thereafter, all
terms will be two-year terms.
COMMUNITY LIBRARIAN The Community Librarian shall be an ex-officio member
of theBoard. The CommunityLibrarian, or the Librarian's designee, shall attend all Board

meetings.
DUTIES The Advisory Board shall perform the following duties: encourage the
development of the library system;recommend to the city councils policies and programs for
the advancement of the libraries; cooperate with all other public and private groups in
advancingthe best interests of the librarysystem;render to the citycouncils all

recommendations it considers advisable regarding the library system.
OFFICERS Officers of the Board shall be chosen at the first meeting of the year and
shall be: president and vice-president. Officers shall serve for one year.
The president shall preside at all meetings, appoint special committees as needed and
• authorize calls for any special meetings.
The vice-president assumes the duties of president in the absence of the president.
COMMITTEES Special committees may be appointed by the president. Such
committees are to serve until the completion of the work for which they were appointed. All
committees are expected to make a progress report at each Board meeting.
MEETINGS Six regular meetings of the Board shall be held in the calendar year at the
time and place selected.
The Community Librarian shall provide a secretary to keep a permanent record of the
meetings.
The Board shall comply with the State of Texas Open Meeting Law and other laws of
the State and the Cities of Bryan and College Station.
Special meetings may be called by the president, or upon the request of four members,
for the transaction of only that business stated in the call for the meeting.
Notice of special meetings shall be sent at least four days in advance.
QUORUM A quorum for the transaction of business shall consist of five members of the
Board.
AMENDMENT OF BYLAWS These bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting
• of the Board when a quorum is present by a unanimous vote, providing the amendment was
stated in the call for the meeting. When a unanimous vote is not obtained,the proposed
amendment may be place on a future agenda at which time a majority vote is required for
passage.

while waiting for someone in the library
We have extra support from Helen Kunz in the Friends for publicity with The Eagle for the July and August calendars,
lve're working on listing events in Fox 28, KBTX, and will do KAMU's calendar this weekend. Kendra has a contact with the
radio host Penny Zent to do PSA's for Teens,Tweens, and Adults. We have a meeting coming up with the folks from the
senior services in Bryan Parks &Recreation and have a "booth" at the Senior Circle Anniversary Health Fair on July 14th
in the Professional Building, 1651 Rock Prairie, across from the Med. in C.S. from 10-2. I'll be there to talk about the
program and would be happy to have company. Our contact with the Senior Circle is Marci Rogers, C.S. Parks&Rec.
Senior Services Coordinator. The theme is Senior Summer Fun. We have a table and have been requested to decorate it
in the theme and provide a door prize. Marci is bringing a plant as a prize and that sounds easy to do. How about decor?
What do you think?The Senior Expo was very fun and every booth was unique. We have several signs in the "1" drive
and will put more there for the July/August programs. Please add any you would like to display and we can have them up
in all locations.

Adult Summer Reading Program 2010
The first 50 people to register at the Carnegie and the first 100 people to register at
Mounce and Ringer will receive pens.
Receive one entry in our weekly drawing when you register. Fill in or call in an entry
form for each book you read during the program to be eligible for the drawings. Entries
will be collected at each library's reference desk. There will be one system wide drawing
per week, maximum of 5 entries per week, per person. You can win a maximum of one of
the weekly prizes per summer. In addition to weekly prizes, you may win door prizes at
some of our events. There will also be a final drawing at the end of summer for any
unclaimed prizes, so continue to fill out your entry slips!
Are you a Non-Borrower Card user? Visit our webpage for access to our new
e-Audiobook service through Net Library. Each account may download up to 10 books at
a time for 3 weeks and can be renewed. Remember to join the reading club and let us
know when you have completed listening to your book.
