BRYAN + COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD
September 22, 2009
On the 22nd day of September, 2009,the Bryan + College Station Public Library System
Advisory Board of the cities of Bryan and College Station,Texas,met in a regular meeting at
the Bryan Public Library, 201 E. 26th Street, Bryan,Texas.
1. Larry Ringer called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. and the following were present:

3. Other attendees were Clara Mounce, Community Librarian; David Gerling of College
Station; and Laura Mills,Adm.Asst.for the Library.
4. The minutes of the meeting for May 21, 2009 were approved as distributed.
5. The monthly stats for May,June,July and August 2009 were discussed. Mrs. Mounce
stated that there were lots of kids in the library this summer.
6. A. In old business,David Gerling reported that the Ringer expansion project will be on
the CIP November agenda.
7. A. In new business,the final statistics for the Summer Reading Program were
distributed.
B. Mrs. Mounce reported that the library had received grants from the Texas Arts
Commission that funded a speaker for the Summer Reading Program. ATMOS Energy also
provided $2,000 for the SRP kickoff at the Ringer Library. The Barbara Bush Literacy.
Grant was received and the Youth Services Librarians have created Literacy Kits and Books
for Babies kits to be distributed in the community.
C. The Carnegie History Center.received a request to accept a vintage clothing collection
from the Brazos Heritage Society. Nan Ross displayed a turn,of the century lace and velvet
blouse. There was discussion as to whether the Carnegie had room to house and maintain
the collection. The Board agreed that the Carnegie History Center is not in a position to
accept realia or artifacts that require such specialized storage and maintenance.
The Board recommended that the Heritage Society pursue donating the collection to Texas
Woman's University.
D. Mrs. Mounce stated that Joey Dunn will continue with the interview process of the
Community Librarian.
8. Librarian's Report: Mrs.Mounce stated that Mell Pruitt passed away. Clara recently
received the D.A."Andy"Anderson Award from the Arts Council of Brazos Valley. The Elks

Lodge also honored her for her service as Community Librarian. Mrs. Mounce was
photographed with Former First Lady Barbara Bush at a luncheon held to honor the
libraries who received Literacy Grants. Mrs. Mounce reported that the Library system will
receive$26,665 from the Texas State Library Loan Star Grants program. The funds will be
spent on databases and DVD's for both libraries.
Ms.Gangotena commented that the Blinn and Texas A&M have agreed on a plan to
implement the Biomedical Science Building at Blinn and the nursing program would be on
the Texas A&M campus when the new Health Science Center is finished.
9.The next meeting will be held on November 17, 2009 at the Carnegie History Center.
