o BRYAN+COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD
, SEPTEMBER 19,2006
On the 19th day of September 2006,the Bryan+College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities of Bryan
and College Station,Texas,met in a regular scheduled meeting at the Bryan Public Library, 201 E.261 Street, Bryan,
Texas and the following members were present:

2.Also present were Mrs.Clara Mounce, Community Librarian;Mrs.Laura Mills, Secretary;Joey Dunn,Deputy City
Manager,City of Bryan;Olivia Burnside and David Gerling of the City of College Station.
3.The meeting was called to order at 5:15 p.m.by Vice President Jeanne Mitchell.
4. The minutes of the meeting for May 16, 2006 were air-v. 1 as distributed. The minutes for July 18,2006 were
approved with one correction in the attendance stats for Mary Fran Troy.
5. The monthly stats for July and August were discussed. It was noted that a discrepancy exists in the stats for the
Larry J. Ringer Library, August report, Last Year Total Active Patrons. The 2005 figure states 2,542, whereas the
figure for 2006 is 19,434. A check into old manual records reveals that the figure should actually be 25,212.
6. In old business,the Board reviewed the suggested changes for the Library Handbook.Tim Bradford moved that the
corrections be made and the Handbook approved. Seconded by Don Schen,the motion carried In other old business,
, Olivia Bumside stated that the Board will need to implement and support a strategic plan for expansion of the library
services in College Station for the CIP 2008. Some preliminaty plans have been drawn to increase the square footage
of the current building for possible expansion. Dave Gerling commented that FEMA had provided regulations for
expansion of the building that included virtual pictures of where you can and can't build; what might work or not
work. The Board discussed a representative for the CIP discussions for the next bond election group. Mr. Ringer

will be present at the next meeting and the board consented to tabling the issue until then.
7. In the librarian's report,Mrs. Mounce reported that a burglar broke a lower window and entered the Bryan Library

on labor Day while she was performing book drop duty. The police were called and arrested the suspect who was
sitting on a park bench on the library lawn. The facilities department will investigate into the installation of a motion
activated alarm system. Installing metal bars on the lower glass windows will also be discussed as a preventative
measure of burglary. The Carnegie library has an alarm and modem that telephones the fire department when
activated. Olivia Burnside commented that all city buildings in College Station are undergoing security measures.
The Larry Ringer Library has a fire alarm;however it does not have a burglar alarm. The motion was made by Mary.
! Fran Troy to support the city of Bryan checking into security devices for the huilding; seconded by Don Schen,the
motion carried Mrs.Mounce stated that Jennifer Bohac will not seek reappointment as Library Board member. James
Bradford did return his application for reappointment to the City Secretary.
Mrs.Monne reported a successful Summer Reading Club. A summary from Larry Ringer Library was distributed
to the board. The Community Librarian stated that the Larry Ringer Library would be closed a half day on Friday,
September 22 for the moving of reference desks and computer desks. The 26 Gates computers distributed among the
three libraries have been replaced as part of the ongoing Gates Foundation Library Program.
In other announcements,Mrs. Mounce said the Friends of the Library Book Sale is scheduled for October 7 at the
Bryan Meeting Room with setup on Friday,the 6'h. David Watkins has been hired as the new city manager for Bryan.
8. Agenda topics for the next meeting include discussion of the strategic plan for library expansion for the College
Station Library. The Board consented to moving the meeting date from November 2e to November 14 due to the
- 1 Thanksgiving holidays. The meeting will be at the Carnegie History Center.
