MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
BRYAN+COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD
March 22,2005
On the 22nd day of March 2005, the Bryan+ College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities
of Bryan and College Station, Texas, met in a regular scheduled meeting at the Bryan Public Library, 201 E.
26th Street, Bryan, Texas and the following members were present:

2. Also present were Mrs. Clara Mounce, Community Librarian; Mrs. Laura Mills, Secretary and Bruce
Albright of the City of College Station.
3. Larry Ringer called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m.
4. The minutes from the January 2005 meeting were approved as distributed.
5. Monthly statistics for January and February were reviewed. Storytime attendance at the Larry J. Ringer
Library was 1,696 for the month of February.
• 6. In old business, Mrs. Mounce reported the library will go live on the new Horizon system on March 30,
2005. Some library services will be limited from March 22 to March 29.
7. A. In new business,Larry Ringer welcomed Carroll Johnson as a new Library Board member for Bryan.
Ms. Johnson was born and raised in Bryan, attended Bishop College, has a Master's Degree in Human
Resource Management, and was in the military for 27 years.
8. Mrs.Mounce reported that the Bryan City Council approved the funds for renovation of the HVAC at the
Bryan Library. In the next year,the Library will pursue a long-range plans through focus groups and public
opinion surveys about the direction of library services. Some suggestions have been to enlarge the current
facility or build a branch library. Pat Touhy,Executive Director of Central Texas Library System will meet
with Mrs.Mounce in April to initiate the process of long-range planning.
Larry Ringer reported that he was elected to the Board of the CTLS. The board members voted for CTLS to
become an incorporated non-profit organization effective September 1,2005. This status will allow-CTLS to
pursue grants and other funding other than the Texas State Library.
9. In the librarian's report, Mrs. Mounce stated that March 28 is the 10`h anniversary of the library fire. She
described how the Chronicle newspaper carrier arrived 30 minutes early on that morning and reported the
fire. With quick action from the Fire Department,the fire was extinguished leaving extensive smoke damage
that took 5 months of renovation before the library reopened the doors.
Mrs.Mounce stated that the Texas Library Association will be held in Austin in early April. Two new Adult
Reference Librarians have been hired,Dale Saenz and Ted Beckstead.
The annual Friends of the Library meeting will be held on April 12th. Amanda Williams from CTLS will be
present to honor Clara Mounce with 100 picture books to establish a perpetual book collection for Mrs.
Mounce.
9. There were no agenda items for the next meeting scheduled for May 17, 2005 at the Carnegie History
Center.
