Visitors were Olivia Burnside and Charlie Shear from the City of College Station.. 3. Larry Ringer called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. 4. Minutes of the May 20, 2003 meeting were approved as distributed. 5. Statistics for the months of May and June 2003 were reviewed. Mrs. Mounce reported that June circulation in College Station was 5,000 more than Bryan. 6. There was no old business. 7. A. Mr. Ringer opened the floor for nominations for vice-president. Mrs. Jo Berg volunteered to accept the office. Motion by Effie Perry; seconded by Shirley Watts,the motion carried to elect Mrs.Berg. • B. There was brief discussion of the Library Gift Policy. Mrs. Mounce suggested the current policy is short, covers the topics required for gifts, and that only minor changes are needed. The Carnegie Deed of Gift is currently used for items donated to the Carnegie Center of Brazos Valley History. C. Mr. Ringer stated that a memorandum from the Library Board will be mailed to the College Station Mayor and City Council addressing the issues of the Library's name on the monument and the expansion of Sunday hours.He reiterated the Board's support of the signage"Library"on the College Station facility and the recommendation that operational hours include Sunday from 1:30 p.m.to 5:30 p.m. The Board does not support extending hours past 9 p.m. on weekdays. 8. In the Librarian's report, Mrs. Mounce stated there was good publicity for the Library's summer activities that usually included four performances at the College Station Library on Tuesdays and two at Bryan on Wednesdays. She commented that a larger meeting room was needed at the College Station Library. Children's story time is conducted year round whereas in the past, it was conducted only during the school year. The teen program is popular and attracts youth, not only for activities, but for participation in puppet shows. The library purchased and circulated 22 copies of the new Harry Totter book on the book's release date June 21'`. Five additional copies were purchased and five are backordered. Four audiotapes (17 cassettes each)are also circulating. • "Carnegie Alley" signs have been placed at each end of the drive-through parking area behind the Carnegie between 26th and 28th streets. A similar blue sign with white letters designating the "Carnegie History Center"has been placed at the back of the building. A water fountain in front of the Carnegie is part of the Main Street renovation project. The portion of 27th street between the Library and the Children's Museum will become a landscaped plaza. Three local Rotary Clubs will contribute to the project as part of the organization's 100th anniversary. The City of Bryan established Good Friday as a holiday for employees; however,no employee raises are expected. Mrs. Mounce attended the farewell reception for Dr. Fred Heath, who accepted as head of the University of Texas Library at Austin. 9. The next meeting will be held on September 16, 2003 at the Bryan Public Library. Agenda items include • the gift policy. 10.
