Brazos Valley Development Council Program • • MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BRYAN LIBRARY BOARD MAY 10, 1978 The Bryan Public Library Board of Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, May 10, 1978, in the Reference Room of the library. Present were Mr. Travis B. Bryan, Jr. , President of the Board, Mrs. R. J. Holmgreen, Mrs. Bookman Peters, Mrs. Jesse Flores, Mrs. Willie Pruitt, and Mrs. Bookman Peters. Under regular business the minutes of the April meeting were approved as written. The statistics were examined and discussed. Mrs. Peters moved acceptance of the booklist. Mrs. Pruitt seconded it. In reference to the Library Board's discussion about public libraries within Texas, the Librarian reported that there are 381 public libraries with 218 branches totalling 599 libraries within the state. The librarian discussed the problem of overdue materials and suggested the • possibility of a computerized circulation control system. The Board directed the librarian to examine the policies of other library systems, and various security and control systems. Under new business, several creative playthings from the Rountree Room were dis- played. These toys will be available in the children's section for use by the public. Due to the rising bindery costs for magazines, the librarian discussed limiting the magazines which the library binds to those titles which are heavily used. The back bound issues would remain in the library and the library would retain the past year unbound in its collection. A short discussion about volunteers within the library followed, and Mrs. Harrison was chosen chairman of a committee which would contact the Friends of the Library about organizing a volunteer group to work at the library. The Nominating Committee presented its report and Mr. Bryan declined the nomination as President and recommended a new slate of officers be elected. Mrs. Allen moved that the Board dispense with the report of the Nominating Committee. Mrs. Pruitt seconded this motion. 411 The new officers were approved unanimously and will be Mrs. Holmgreen, President; Mrs. Harrison, Vice President; and Mrs. Peters, Treasurer. Mr. Bryan said what a pleasure it had been to serve as President of the Board for the past three years and added that he would continue to support and work on the Board. The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m. Mr. Travis B.
