OF THE BRYAN+COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD
September 18, 2001

On the 18th day of May, 2001 the Bryan+College Station Public Library Advisory Board of the cities of
Bryan and College Station, Texas, met in a regular meeting in the meeting room at the College Station
Library, 1818 Harvey Mitchell Parkway South, College Station, Texas, and the following members were
present:

2. Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, Community Librarian and Mrs. Laura E. Mills,
Secretary/Library. There were no visitors.
3. President Larry Ringer called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m.
4. The minutes of May 15, 2001 were approved. The meeting for July, 2001 was cancelled.
• 5. The monthly statistics for May, June, July, August were discussed.
6. A. In old business, Mrs. Mounce informed the Board that College Station Council approved funds in the
budget to purchase the self check-out unit. At this time, the College Station Library will not open on
Sundays. Mrs. Mounce announced the library's budget for Bryan was cut 3%for Fiscal Year 2001-2002.
7. In new business, Mrs. Mounce stated that she and Mr. Ringer attended a general session of the College
Station City Council that requested boards and commissions to establish a mission statement. Kathi Appelt
offered to assist in the project. Mrs. Mounce said the Texas Legislature approved $2.9 million aid to public
libraries. The subject of the Texas State Library Tex-Share Card program was discussed. Charles Smith
made the motion to pursue the Tex-Share Card; seconded by Effie Perry,the motion carried.
The Summer Reading Club program 2001 was successful. The program offered several different choices for
children during the summer including a popular Teen Reading Program. Statistics for the program will be
available later.
8. In the librarian's report, Mrs. Mounce reported the Tex-Share databases are available at the library, but
passwords for home use are not available. The courier service for Interlibrary Loan materials is working
very well. Mrs. Mounce and Kathi Appelt presented a book signing at Jacque's Toys and Books for Mrs.
Appelt's new book titled, Down Cut Shin Creek. Mrs. Mounce reported several vacancies at both Bryan
and College Station.
9. The next meeting will be held at the Bryan Public Library on November 20, 2001.
10. The meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
