HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/20/2001 - Regular Agenda Packet - Bryan College Station Library System Advisory Board • AGENDA BRYAN+ COLLEGE STATION LIBRARY SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD Tuesday, March 20, 2001 5:15 p.m. This meeting will be held in meeting room at the College Station Public Library, 1818 Harvey Mitchell Parkway South. It is the responsibility of each Board member to notify the library if unable to attend. 1. Call to Order 2. Roll Call of members 3. Recognition of visitors 4. Previous minutes 5. Monthly statistics • 6. Old Business 7. New Business A. Introduction and oath of office of new board members, Shirley Watts and Charles Smith. B. Discussion of budget items for FY2001-2002 8. Librarian's Report 9. Request for May 2001 agenda 10. Please try to contact the above person at least 48 hours before the scheduled time of the meeting so that your request may be fulfilled. • SUNDAY HOURS AT COLLEGE STATION PUBLIC LIBRARY FY 2001-2002 When we initiated Sunday hours (1:30-5:30 p.m.) at Bryan we budgeted for: Full time librarian $39,000 Full time clerk $24,000 Self check out unit X28,000 1,000 Staff comes in earlier and stays later than the public hours to empty book drops, set up machines, put out newspapers, and check conditions in public restrooms. There would be an increase in the cost of utilities. Circulation and attendance will build as the word spreads that the library is open on Sunday afternoons. Bryan averages 300 people on Sunday afternoons. Computer use$ is brisk. Careful scheduling of staff if necessary as we try to give a staff member two days off in a row, if they so desire. • We would need two librarians and one full time clerk on duty at a minimum. If circulation and attendance increases dramatically we would have to add a second clerk. The self-check out unit is a reliable back up to the single clerk at Bryan at this time. We have additional public access computers which add to the workload. On Sunday afternoon a great many of the visitors use computers. Additional use of the meeting room would be a workload. This proposal must be supported by the library board to have the possibility of being funded.
