OF THE BRYAN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
January 21, 1997
0. On the 21st day of January 1997, the Library Board of the City of Bryan, Texas met in a regular meeting in
the City Librarian's office at the Bryan Public Library, 201 E. 26th Street, Bryan, Texas, and the following
members were present

Also present was Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, City Librarian;Ms. Angela Alford, College Station Branch Librarian;
Mrs. Nan Ross, Senior Reference Librarian; Ms. Cathie McQuistion, Automation Services Technician and Mrs.
Laura E. Mills, secretary/Library.
3. The new Library Board member,Mr. Philip Wymola was introduced. There were no visitors present.
4. The previous minutes for November 1996 were approved.
5. Monthly statistics for the months of November and December 1996 were discussed.
6. There were no committee reports.
In the librarians' reports,Mrs. Ross reported that IRS tax forms were available. The volunteer tax-help
'provided by AARP would start February 3. Ms. Alford reported that the College Station Library was closed
December 18, 19, and 20 for bar-coding of books. Ms. Alford announced her resignation effective February 7,
1997; she has accepted a position with Lancaster Public Library. Mrs. Mounce reported the Junior League of
Bryan-College Station may assist with the Summer Reading Program. The Carnegie Library project is moving
slowly. Mrs. Mounce advised the Library Board that a patron has requested that the Genealogy section of the
library be arranged alphabetically instead of the current Dewey Decimal system. The Library Board supported the
current method and Mrs. Mounce will respond to the patron by letter.
8. In old business, Ms. Cathie McQuistion reported that bar-coding of books was still on-going. The College
Station Library has completed the bar-coding of everything except the H-Z sections of the Easy picture books.
The Bryan Library has completed all volumes downstairs, all juvenile non-fiction and 2/3 of the juvenile fiction. A
realistic goal of being on-line is March, 1997. She contributed the success of the project to the great attitude of
the staff and willingness to work overtime to accomplish the task.
In new business, the Library Board discussed the representation of College Station residents on the Library
Board. The Library Board discussed having seven or no more than nine members serve on the Advisory Board
with appointments from both Bryan and College Station City Councils with the majority being selected from Bryan
citizens. No vote was taken.
A proposal shall be submitted through Dr. John Blackburn, Director of Community Services to the City Manager.
9. There were no requests for the next agenda.
10. The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
