OF THE BRYAN LIBRARY BOARD

1 . ON the 21 of Jan . 1987, the Library Board of the City of
Bryan, Texas, convened in regular session in the regular
pi-ace in the Reading A1eA. of the Library Building at 5:00
p.m, and the following members were present:

Also present were Mrs. Clara B. Mounce, City Librarian; Mrs.
Jerilynn A. MilJiams, Associate City Librarian; and Mrs.

„ 410 3. No visitors were present.
4. The minutes for October and November were approved as
presented.
5. There were no questions on the statistics for the months
of October, November, and December.
6. No committee reports.
7. In the librarian 's report; Mrs. Mounce, announced a fund
raising event organized by Terry Tongo, of the College
Station City Coun•Yil to be held February 2I, 1987. Proceeds
of the art auction will be given to the Branch Library.
The City Librarian proposed the Adopt—a—Book policy for
consideration of the Board. The policy provides citizens an
opportunity to make a modest contribution to the book buying
fund for the Bryan Public Library and the College Station
Public Library. The motion was made by Vic Paulos to adopt
the Adopt—A Book policy, seconded by Judge Ruffino, the
motion carried.
Mrs. Mounce and Mrs. Milliams are scheduled to attend
the Texas Library Association annual legislative day
conference on February 18 in Austin . Mrs. Mounce informed
the board that Mr . Bill- Gooch was appointed as the new State

���� Librarian who replaced the retiring Dr . Dorman Minfrey.

Gooch assisted the City Librarian in plans for the branch
library.

8. Mrs. Mounce announced that the Branch Library in College
Station would have open house ceremonies on February 1, 1987
and that it would open for the public on February 3. The
hours for the branch are as follows: Tuesdayr Mednesday' and
Thursday, open ll am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday' fl am to

���V 5 pm and closed on Sunday and Monday. There are 9,000 plus
-- vuJumes on the shelves, including 2,500 new books and the
remainder on loan from the main library. All Board members
were sent invitations to the open house ceremonies and the
City Librarian encouraged all board members to attend.
9.A. Mrs. Mounce distributed portions of the Bryan Forward
report which mentioned the library 's contribution to the
progress of the city. After much discussion, the Board voted
to prepare a letter to the City Manager 's office for the
Bryan Forward committee to follow-up on the Bryan Forward
report. The report will be sent to each Board member for
comments before sending to the City Manager 's office for the
Bryan Forward committee.
9.B. Mr . Madeley asked the Board for approval to prepare a
resolution in commemoration of Millie Belle Bogard, a former
Library Board member who died recently. The Board asked
the City Librarian to prepare this letter and send it to Mrs.
Bogard 's family.
10. There were no requests for items for the agenda.
11 . The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
