OF THE BRYAN LIBRARY BOARD

Bryan, Texas, convened in regular session in the regular
place in the R'eadinq Area of the Library Burl_dirrq at :00
p.m. and the following members were present:

A1sca present were Mrs. Clara B. !ounce, City Librarian; Mrs„
Jerilyr'rr'r /41lliarns, Associate City Librarian , and Mrs,. Laura
!'Mills, secretary and children 's librarians, Robbin Major and
Glenda Duncan .
3.. Visitors present were Mrs. Glenda Duncan, and Mrs. Robin
Major , Children 's Librarians.
4. The minutes for March were approved as presented.
5. Statistics for March and April for both the Bryan and
College Station Libraries werepresented. Mrs,. Ali>un.c'e
pointed out that over $00 new borrower 's cards were issued in
April .
6.. There were no committee reports.
r.& 8, The City Librarian introduced new Board member-, Mrs.
Donna Ford. It was noted that Vic Paulos will be going off
the Board June 1 and the City Council will appoint a
replacement, Mrs. Alford, Mrs. Thomas and Mrd Madeley are
eligible for reappointment at this time, if the council so
desires.
Mrs . Mounce reported that the correct children 's table
top had been obtained for the branch. She stated that a new
magazine
section is OP order to xnc:rease the capacity in that
area. The City Librarian said the budget for College Station
would be finalized in a few weeks and if approved, a 20 hr .
Iprofessional .librarian position would be available-
Mrs. Mounce mentioned to the Boird that in 1988, the
library will celebrate 85 years 01 service to the County.
She asked the Board to consider some act i vi t'es. to help
observe this occasion . She reported that the Friends of the
Face 1.
Library have recommended some projects to mark the years of
library service, as well as 20 years in this building.
Mrs, Mounce reported that the Friends have applied for a
grant from the Arts Council for a project that would benefit
0 the library. The Arts Council will hear from the grant
applicants in July and make a decision in September .
9. The children 's librarians reported on plans for the
Summer Reading Club, Animal Antics. Activities are planned
each Nednesday during the summer months for children . The
kick-off activity will be the 4-H- Petting Zoo. Mrs. Duncan
reported on class visits being conducted and Mrs. Major
informed the Board of the youth volunteer play that will be
presented. Other activities include programs on bee keeping,
snakes, participation storytelling, and films. A certificate
and food coupon will be presented to each child completing
his/her reading goals.
Mrs. Jerilynn Nilliams reported that College Station
Community Education will sponsor a bus to transport
no more than 50 registered children to the Bryan Library for
the Nednesday activities. She stated that some details are
still pending, but hopes this project will present no major
problems.
Mr . Madeley added to this report that there will be a
children 's Crimewatch art June 11 and 12 .from 6-9 p.m. at the
Brazos Center . Some publicity will be done at Summer Reading
Club registration and flyers will be available at the
4110 library.

10. Mr . Madeley appointed a nominating committee: Mildred
Thomas, Chairman; Carolyn Alford, and Betty Gibson to present
names to the Board at the July meeting for President and Vice
President for next year .
Mrs. Mounce stated that the By-laws need some updating
and consideration this year .
The Board will not meet in June, but will meet , in July
and Mrs. Mounce will make a presentation on the two projects
planned by the Friends of the Library.
